    cake bags

I found these bags at the local wally world. $7 for 2 rolls ain't bad.
I have a Seal A Meal too. I made the bags large so I can slice and open them later to fruit invitro. I made my mix as I would cakes mixing 1:2:1 ~ brf:verm:water. I put in each bag the equivilent of 3 or 4 cakes. I pc'ed them in a large pc wrapped in a towel so they wouldn't be directly touching the sides. I pced them for 75min 2 of the bags held up well. the third...um...one side stuck to the other. Does anyone make their own bags and if so...any pointers?

    pictures are...

    bag before pc.

I'm going to innoculate with oyster spores so i'm hoping it will colonize quick enough where the hole won't matter.

you need a bag with a #5 or P5 this will hold up on pc and won't stick to each other.

My recomendation to you is get real actual filter patch bags and stop messing around with inferior homemade bags. They are not expensive, probably cheaper or about the smae as buying those foodsaver bags. sporeworks.com, a great sponser of this site, sells 100 bags for 39.99. Will last you forever, plus they are real bags and were desingned for ......... growing mushrooms!!!!!!!

Sporeworks does mail order via check and money order. If a paper trail is your concern, PayPal is a terrible choice.

Regardless of how cheap the Wally bags are, they are unfiltered. You can't colonize a bag of anything without a little fresh air. Attaching home made filter patches to bags is possible, but it is also a royal PITA.
