| Redboy and Acadian Coast In The Same Tray I have started a tray with goat poo / straw / verm. I used some extra materials from log making of both RB and AC. I added both strains to the mix evenly. It grew in really fast and is 90 % colonized right now. Will 2 kinds of mushrooms fruit from this mix? I've heard one strain will dominate the other, is this true? I guess i'll see shortly. The tray is clear and I can see that the 2 cultures merged instantly. Red Coast? peace H |

| If it woks out like the button and Portabella i did in the same tray when the mycelia meet it will stop without growing into the others established turf. This one experiment is my only experience so it may not hold true with all strains.

| Is there anyway this thread could be moved to photo / grow logs??? I have some picture to add if people want to check it out. First pic is the bowl of half redboy, half acadian coast -- mixed. Together with that is sheep poo / straw / verm. The second pic is the same bowl cased with cactus soil. It was returned to the incubator for awhile. Not sure what will happen and to be honest havent seen either strain before, so I wont know them apart unless its obvious. Maybe some of you will be able to tell. Thanks H |

| i'm pretty sure that cubensis will greet other cubensis and mate, in other words they go through a mycological process wherein the two strains will combine or one will outgrow the other. i've heard that this extra "meeting" between the strains causes the mycelium to expend more energy reorganizing itself to one cubensis strains, thus creating less potent shrooms? i think that you are either gonna get redboys or acadians, not both and most likely not a redboy acadian hybrid, for cubensis are all from the same family. but then again i am not a mycologist, i just play one at home. someone know the "technical" terms for this kind of phenomena? will a cubensis and a woodlover psilocybe grow in the same tray?

good news and bad. the good news is that by doing what you did mixing the spawn like that, you have increased your chances of getting a dikaryotic pairing...geometerically. the bad news is that a dikaryon pairing is more rare than a monokaryon pairing, so your chances are slim. most likely you will get a mix of fruiting areas where some will be RB and the others AC. one var may overcome the other simply by speed of food consumption alone, but my bet is you will see at least a few of the slower var. it will be near these that you will want to look for anything...out of the ordinary, or fruits exhibiting traits from both vars. unfortunately, both vars are already quite similar so it will be difficult to distinguish. like i said, your chances are slim...but there are chances. ![]() many good vibes your way!

| Lol, that would be interesting. If nothing else, to see who would be the victor in the battle of the mycelium. My votes on the wl at room temp- given a diverse sub that everyone likes.

| How would one do that? Grow a bowl of P. Cyan & Cubensis on PC'd rye ? Split the difference and fruit them at 6o-65 F ? Heck i'm already fruiting cubes at room temp or lower, due to cold nights. I have some interesting species started that I would like to experiment with. Cyanfrisco, Viet Pan, P. Cyan and others. The problem right now is the WL that I have going are on alder chips. Hopefully the Cyanfrisco and Pans get going on the rye. Its almost time to start looking for signs. Thanks For The Food For Thought H |
