Well, I got some LC syringes from sporeworks, they hooked me up with a free syringe of maitake, so I'm growing some of that along with the reishi. Jars were done as similar to SpaceCowboy's tek as possible. The only sawdust I could find was from a wood products shop. . .a combination of maple, oak, beech, and alder. Innoculated on 8-17 and 8-18, the first signs of the Maitake are starting to show up! None on the Reishi so far, but it is just two days since they started. So here's some photos of the jars and my glovebox which I finished week before last. . .finally completed my back room into a myco-lounge. Wish me luck! |

anyone familiar enough with edibles/medicinals to know if the blend of hardwoods would be a problem? Also wondering, could oat bran be substituted for the wheat bran, or is there something nutritionally lacking in the oats that the wheat has?

Cool project, Maitake is a delight to work with. And so very tasty. ![]() Here's a few pics of my grow. http://forums.mycotopia.net/edible-m...e-oysters.html (Maitake and Oysters)

Wow those are beautiful, BaconSquishy! The Reishi cultures weren't dead after all, apparently just a little slow growing, so things look like they're taking off, though not nearly so fast as yours man, lol. The Maitake is going pretty good, the Reishi is just now showing little fuzzy spots where I inoculated, but hey, if there's one thing this hobby's taught me, it's patience! ![]() So here's a couple of photos of the slowly-but-surely project |

Reishi is tropical-subtropical and maitake is temperate. If you are incubating them at the same temperature, one is bound to be slower growing. Good to see that the reishi is alive.

Been keeping them at a straight 80 degrees (a couple degrees fluctuation here and there of course) I thought the Reishi would grow faster at this temperature, but hey. . .goes to show what I know, lol ![]() Major props Workman, I've never bought spores/cultures from anyone besides you, and I've never been disappointed. |

![]() | Reishi/Maitake update
So next time I'm going to either do a dowel inoculation or grain. . .LC takes a rather long time to get established. . .here's the faster colonizing jars of Reishi ![]() and the best of the Maitake thus far. ![]() So far all jars have now shown growth, though a couple of the Reishi are only now starting to show signs. Ah well, carry on, Montague! |
