    Pan-cakes

So I've got some pan cambos going in the radel/cyano cakes from mycrotopia.com. I just birthed two of them, but now I am not so sure about my timing. My thought process was birthing them a little before the outer layer (coir in this case I believe) was completely colonized so it would act like a true casing layer.

    What do you guys think?

seems some fell off in birth.
well, the idea of the exterior shell is to
    lower contam rates, primarily.
but losing a portion of it does not mean
    increased risk either,
    it's just 'normal'.
you might consider just 'patching' it
    with more of the same.

i usually wait until the shell is mostly colonized before birthing
and some pieces usually do fall off

then a double end casing usually seems to work well.

the one thing about this style cake is that they keep flushing and flushing

oh yeah i went ahead and dunked the radel/cyano style pan-cake when you had asked me about that TJ
only some of the loose shell soil came off
the rest was held together fine by the myc
    after a 24 hour dunk

I think ,the longer u wait to birth em - the faster they pin and the sturdier they hold together ..With good original moisture content, they pop with out doing a thing to em..I did add a sprinkle
of verm to the top of mine to help preserve that moisture though..
Yours look to be colo'd well enough to be knotting soon..gluk

I hear ya, I'm going to let the other ones go for a while longer. At least we'll get to see the difference side by side.

Interesting thing also about these is they have coir instead of potting mix on the outside. I believe maybe some worm castings too? Hip?
