![]() | "B+" First Pick...ever... FOAF birthed his first cake a week or so ago for fruiting and had his very first harvest ever (this being his very first grow). There's one more cake left to birth, but FOAF is waiting for more invitro pins to form. The other two cakes of the original four were buried in the garden in hopes of seeding an outdoor grow. Here's some pictures of the first picks. The one question FOAF has is about the "knots" in the closeup of the cakes with an abort at the center. He's assuming this is normal and just picked the whole darn thing, abort and all. Is there a special name for these bulbous entities? Also, it seems from other posts B+ does the one big one per cake, and then other small ones, and that's what was picked. The cake was then dunked in ice water for about 10 mins (didn't have the opportunity to leave it in the fridge overnight...). |

![]() ![]() | Congrats! I like to scrape the fuzz and nubs off with my finger nail and the dry the rest. As far as aborts go I save them for myself... mighty potent little buggers. If they are black or rotten I just toss em.

![]() | Odd thing is, the bulb-things weren't really fuzzy like other pictures of mycelium fuzz from other pics on this site. That's what the FOAF thought it was at first since the cakes were never inspected up close until these were picked. Once picked, it was dense and spongy just like the stalk on any other mushroom. Almost like the abort stopped growing, but the stalk kept pushing up around it. Not only that, but the mushrooms look so fragile on the cake...but it takes quite the twist to break them off and the stem is much stronger than it looks. |

![]() | Cool man. I just tried my first shrooms ever and they were from a home grow as well. I have to say it was about the best feeling I have ever felt(as far as a buzz goes). Them B+ did it for me and it should you too. Good luck man and start out slow. ![]() |

![]() | More would be great. We'll see how the first experience goes - although some great advice was read in another thread regarding a trip - something along the lines of "Don't go in with expectations, but rather let the trip guide you..." It's hard not to build up expectations during the effort put into the grow. But the hope is the end product will treat us well and open our minds. |
