![]() | African Transkei cake salvage on compost 9 1/2 pts. of pf style cakes were innoc'd with Africa Transkei multispore solution not a big grow, only enough to sample the strain however a horrible blue / green mold near the injection sites plagued most of the jars. All the good myc chunks were brushed off and dunked in icy cold fridge with a capful of peroxide. then after a few days the myc was spawned to a mix of 70% agway c-poo / 30% coir. this time instead of oven pasteurization the sub was loaded into 4 Qt jars and PC'd for one hour. pins after 5 days. no casing layer. here is how they looked in the morning ![]() then later in the evening before harvest ![]() i never heard much about what size the African Transkei tend to be ![]() either way they seem to be aggressive and fast colonizers. also there was not many aborts. here is the largest mushroom from the first flush ![]() ![]() cap diameter 2.5" and 9" tall, thats why Cubes are so much fun ![]() hopefully get another flush or two and especially some nice dark prints. |

![]() | ![]() here is flush two ![]() spotty..looks like a little un-even distribution. but imo any fruits are good fruits lots of nice prints this time too to keep the strain alive. plus the syringe only cost $5 from TGS special of the month. a good price for almost an oz of dried african cubes not sure about flush three after all the heavy sporulation all over the sub ![]() ![]() |

![]() | ones a pan species i think and the others a cube (remember summin like a pan sub africana or summin to that effect.. could be horribly off course) theres probs a lot more but mycology isnt as long running in south africa as in other places much to explore ![]() |

![]() | ![]() yeah i see a panaeolus africanus in a well known feild guide. the cube strain is supposedly found on the transkei coast of the indian ocean in southern africa as far as the skull - the left eye put out a small shroom and some aborts i think that is all sorry to say happy halloween anyways ![]() |

![]() | thx ![]() half the sub was flipped over. the 'flipped' side flushed a decent flush as the untouched side had only 2 fruits. ![]() after this the sub was sent outdoors to see if the african strain can fruit in colder temps. the cake that fruited mutants produced a second flush with far less mutant traits. ![]() sent most of the prints over to topia for the print drive. ![]() thanks for stopping by.. |

![]() ![]() | african cubes Im growing that strain myself, but am wondering does this strain take awhile to fruit? Im going on three weeks with a pretty aggresive myc, it keeps overtaking the casing and hasnt pined yet. Luckily no contams. ive recased to keep it from drying out and its taking over the casing again. I also salvaged this strain from a bad initial cake.

![]() ![]() | I have two cakes in the FC and they both have been DEC with a 60/40 Coir/Verm mix hydrated to field capacity then misted for two or three days after. this myc just takes over the casing. the cakes are a rye berries and poo compost mix and were pretty well hydrated when mixed into the compost. After the trays colonized I cased the top of the sub still in the tray and the Myc just took it over, so I popped the cakes out of the trays and DEC both and again the myc takes over the casing, still no fruits. just wondering should i keep the temp up towards 80 F or where I have it oround 72 F?. Also I have it in indirect sunlight during the day. would it be better to keep it in my cabinet where I can keep it more toward the mid 70's to 80 F with a 40 watt bulb?

![]() ![]() | I fan them two or three times a day, or more if I think about it. Should I cut a hole In each end of my FC and cover with tyvek or polyfill?

![]() ![]() | Well Im frustrated. this salvaged mess just stopped growing. Everything was nice and white, cased and the casing colonized nice. now after several weeks nothing ever pinned and now nothing at all is happening and the myc on the sides is turning yellow and brown. Ive dunked them overnight to still no avail. Ive noticed I never see a real ryzomorphic growth, the myc just grows real dense and thick almost looks like a little white sponge. Im going to spawn another grain bag with some of the good mycelium and start again. But I begin to wonder is this some sort of mutation because of how thick it grows with no pins? especially when it takes over the casing very thick also? Im just not seeing where it could have a chance to knot. Has anyone had any experience like this? Or is there possibly something Im doing wrong? I mean Ive done everything in a glove box, mixed the rye with donkey doo compost and verm. Cased with 60/40 coir verm. all in the mini sandwich trays, the glad 20 oz throw aways (clear). birthed them cased them and kept them in a FC with pearlite on the bottom, H2O2 and water. had plenty of humidity, tried 72 deg F up to 82 deg F, and NOTHING! HELP! ![]() |
