![]() | Azurescens try 2008-2009update
Well I'm aboud to give the Azurescens another try this year...! A couple of weeks ago, I turned over my compost pile,..and to my suprize I found some healthy Mycelium.. (picture1) that was throwed away after a failed indoor (Azure) experiment last year... The Mycelium looked and smelled great,..so I have cleaned it up a bit,..and it's going to be used now,for an outdoor experiment. Some pieces are put on some wet cardboard ..so it will colonize the cardboard for later use or backup.(picture 2) Last week I found some fresh woodchips and those were soaked for 5 days in water. (picture 3,4) Then..I drained it very well, and mixed it all up with the Azure-myc. I used a ratio of 5:1 (picture 5,6) Only problem ,is that I don't know what kind of wood it is,but I will give it a try... Nothing I used was sterilized or pasturized... Hopefully it will colonize the chips in aboud three/four ? weeks or so...depending on temperature. Then,I will expand the subtrate and add more woodchip with the same ratio...,and post more pics !

Yeah lots of people grow them here.. This climat is perfect for growing them...! In the summer the average temp is aboud 20-26 oC and in the winter the average is aboud -3 to 10 oC And plenty of rain too ! I also have some Subaeruginosa's in the ground, but those will have to go ,to make room for the Azures (I don't want any competiton)... But I will not throw them away, but move them inside. The last (big) outdoor try was a failure, because the myc. was taken over by Inkycaps !

Update...?,sure ! Well,I think the Azure woodchips are now for 60-70 % colonized..! Below is the picture of the tray, that I took this evening... What shall I do ?...mix it all up again..,or leave it be till its fully colonized. ..I think it's best to mix it all up again... Also posted a picture (little blurry) of a brf jar that I had innoculated (on 9 march)with an old Subaeruginosa syringe... It was taken from an indoor grow..,so all is going well, and there are no signs of contamination. Incubation temps of both species are around 18 oC Because I have alot of woodchips this year,I will try this specie again too ! Last year I had no woodchips at all,but this year I have plenty !

Thanks guys..! The woodchips looked very good when I mixed them all up ! They were all attached to each other and smelled great ! No signs of cobweb or other contamination... I'm probably going to expand this grow 5 times, because all is going well,..and I've got plenty of time before winter !

,.......question... What do you guys/girls think...,I'm gonne make the bed next week, because the tub is fully colonized... I want to mix the chips with some verm and/or coir/peat and maybe some potting soil or something like that ,so it can hold a little more water in the summer. Also because I'm gonne mix in potting soil,I can sow some (grass ?)seed in aswell . What do you think..? good idea ?

Cool, shady spots. In my experiance, they collonize the quickest with a temperature of aboud 15 oC. Gonne make pictures when I make the outside beds ,and post it here..a nice place next to fence of my neighbour and me,..out of the sun.

..More updates..! I have made my outdoor bed today... ![]() Not so big..,but I can make it bigger anytime I want right ! First picture shows the drained wet woodchips, and a mixture of vermiculiet and coir/peat ready to be put in my outdoor bed Everything was put into the hole I made for my outdoor bed. (picture 2) Then..,the collonized chips were added (picture 3),they were collonized pretty good,so it looked like a big cake..lol I broke up the colonized chips, and mixed it thru the fresh woodchips. (picture 4) Some more peat/coir and potting soil was added on top of the woodchips, and some pieces of moss and grass seeds were added too ! (couldn't find flaxseed) Also I want to cover-up the the bed with twigs or something, but I don't have it at this time... I sprayed water on top of the soil and now the waiting game has started !

I made a very good find at the dump. There has been a crew of tree trimmers that chip trees under powerlines, mostly maple and birch that have dumped some piles of chips there. The dump lady said I can take all I want ! Check around your area for free chips, they are out there...

That's sort off how I got my chips too..! But I find it hard to identify a tree in the Winter/Spring,when it's not holding any leaves.

![]() | Blue, blue, my tub is blue..................
I gotta admit I just LOVE this site! Thank you again H3! -------------- These are pix of my azures (Sporeworks syringe/WBS/Aspen shavings(Petsmart)) as inspired by WayLitJim (kudos WLJ... when Pope comes to USA I'm asking him to consider you for cannonization).----- I have absolutely no idea why this is pinning. Gift horse/mouth situation. |

![]() | Well, I didn't either at first..... ------- But if ya look closely SC, and hopefully soon they will be somewhat larger and therefore more readily distinguishable, you'll find them. In the first pic, vertically oriented, there are three located between 7 O'clock and 8:30. In the second pic, there may be a small cluster around 3 O'clock to 4:30. (Althougn I MAY be kidding myself here) LIGHT caramel caps, not dark caramel. OBN Last edited by oldiebutnewbie; 04-12-08 at 17:06. Reason: ID locations |

![]() | Yes and no I'm getting more pins but they don't seem to be getting any larger Spacecake. Any ideas on what I should do? I had these going to transplant outdoors but now that they are pinning maybe I can fruit them inside. I'll try to post more pix soon. Your 15 degrees C is about the same as my 58-60 F. To convert C to F, double it, subtract 10% and add 32. So 15 degrees Centigrade equals 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks for your input SC. OBN |

You need to have a seperate fridge for this,..you can try it without the ultrasonic, but I don't think that will work well. You could mist by hand too... Maybe you should give it a try..can always put them outside again with no problems...

![]() | Wow, THAT cold? Quote:
----------- Anyway I don't have the extra fridge and I don't know how I'd rig it up to run the vaporizer with the door closed if I did. BUT, I DO have an equally cold spot inside the garage and I've been just spraying several times a day manually so I went with that. We'll see how it works. I tried to take more pix but I need to learn how to do close-ups. They aren't good so I only posted the best one. I THINK I see a certain elogation of a stem in this but I might easily be deluding myself. I did satisfy myself by picking one with tweezers that they are actually pins and not colonized millet grains from the WBS. The entire tub smells lovely and mushroomy and has a lot of blue patches where these pins are developing. --------- I'm using the aspen bedding because I had problems with bark and azures. I had a little project going with Ps. cyan and azures. In separate containers of course. I did the WBS, then switched to aspen bedding for the transition to wood. Then I tried to move to bark. The cyans loved it but the azures puked. They really hated the bark and it was all the same stuff and all from the same batch so I figured that azures didn't like bark. I scraped the bark off as best I could and simply added more aspen bedding and made my original 1 tub into 3 tubs. This is the third tub. The one that I didn't have quite enough aspen left to fill entirely. --------- I hope your bark works better than mine did. This sure is fun and we'll get it right eventually I'm sure. Just gotta be patient and persistent. Thanks again for your ideas SC and good luck. OBN | |

In the past,I used an old fridge with aquarium heaters and an air bubbler,..this way I could get the temps just right and the rh was good. But I did make a sort of terrarium inside the fridge,..this way it was alot easyér to achieve this. Because it was an old fridge,I could make holes in it for the powerlines, and the tubes from the air bubbler outside the fridge. But you don't have that, and we will see if your setup would work...only way to be sure is... to just go for it !

![]() | This is humiliating but the truth must be told
Firstly, thank you spacecake for your generous and informative assistance. Folks like you make this site the place to be. ---- HOWEVER, it has just come to my attention that I am completely mistaken in regard to the existence of pins in this tub. Youch! That hurts, but it's true. I have completely deceived myself and therefor you too. Wolf, wolf! Those are not pins at all but actually colonized millet. I got a trustworthy youngster to examine them and she was not able to confirm my initial belief. In fact she was able to convince me entirely otherwise. What I perceived as elongation of a stem or growth was actually only a coincidence caused by the aspen shavings sort of standing up. When I used tweezers I thought it felt like 'shroom, but since the millet was well soaked, PC'd and half eaten, sure it felt similarly. Under a good 'scope the truth is apparent, it's millet. ------------ Well, of course we could all congratulate an old man for retaining that childlike enthusiasm in defiance of the facts but probably a better lesson for me is to realise how easily one may observe that which one wants to see. I think the 'cold fusion' thing happened that way too. No malice intended, not a deliberate hoax. ------ As you pointed out Space, I can still put the tub outside. I also learned a whole lot (thanks again). Your original scepticism was well founded and the polite manner in which you expressed it was very nice. It kinda nagged at me until I was able to get somebody trustworthy to examine my stuff. That's beneficial and that's how I learn new things. ------- These darn newbies, what are ya gonna do with us, eh? ![]() OBN |

..A little update..(nothing special). The mycelium is getting very strong and was poking thru the top layer... So,I added a tick layer of woodchips again and made a better looking area, full of woodchips instead of grass. In the last picture I marked the area were the bed is below the chips. ...only aboud 4 months to go...! ![]()
