I ate the bolete and the hedgehog, prepared Japanese tempura style. MMMM DELICIOUS!!!! THE best way to prepare mushrooms, imho. The amanita pic I call 'Amanita Rising' I'm quite proud of it, took a bit of work with photoshop of combining two pics, one with flash one with long exposure. I guess its my first successful attempt at using photoshop to improve a photo, pro style. Thanks for the compliment, moldylogic.

These pictures were taken with a Cannon SD1000 The first one is just a picture I took when I was bored. The second one is a picture in the park the other night. It turned out realy odd and creepy. edit: btw, that is not a moon in that picture. It was cloudy that night. I am not sure what happened or why that spot is there. |

![]() | Billion-pixel panoramas — http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/...cle3938717.ece A device that lets a camera take pictures with 100 times the resolution of the most advanced models on the market is poised to revolutionise amateur photography. The Gigapan allows people to take pictures which are more than a gigapixel - or 1,000 megapixels - in size, effectively turning a single photograph into a panoramic experience, around which the viewer can navigate on a computer. Yet the actual camera used is no more specialised than a regular digital model. The Gigapan uses a robot mounted on a tripod to command a normal camera to take several hundred separate photographs of a single scene - each at a slightly different angle. The individual photographs are then stitched together by software on the owner's computer - much as amateurs have attempted to do for years by after taking several pictures of a wide landscape, only with more impressive results. In this photograph of the South Bank in London, the viewer can zoom in on different parts of the same photo to reveal the number of people in one of the pods on the London Eye, or the time shown by Big Ben - 7.24pm - even though each is hundreds of metres away. By bringing together more than 350 separate, highly zoomed-in photographs in a single image, the GigaPan allows viewers to zoom in and out of different parts of the same image, creating the impression of a 3D environment. The device, which derives its name from the fact that each of its composite images contains more than a billion pixels, is in effect doing for amateur photographs what Google Earth does for satellite imagery. In a demonstration of the device given to Times Online, the Gigapan took 360 images of San Francisco bay over a period of about ten minutes - 36 across and 10 in each column. The overall period of exposure is longer than with a traditional panoramic camera - which presents problems if moving objects enter the frame, as these ghostly images of torsos without legs show. By the time the camera tilts itself down several degrees after taking an picture which included a man's upper body, his legs are out of shot. The viewing experience once the composite image is loaded onto a PC is remarkable. A typical image taken by a ten-megapixel camera, which would contain ten million pixels, becomes more fuzzy as you zoom in on it. The Gigapan's, by comparison, retains its sharpness across its full breadth and width. The Gigapan was created by a group of academics at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with the aim of allowing people to learn about foreign countries and culture by providing them with rich imagery of unfamiliar places. "Our goal is to bring the world closer together by making it possible for anybody to take these panoramas and show them to people across the world," Randy Sargent, chief architect of the project at Carnegie Mellon, said. The camera, one of several initiatives of the Global Connection Project (GCP), which is backed by Nasa, Google and National Geographic, is still being tested, but will likely cost "in the order of several hundred dollars" when released, according to a person involved with the trials. The GCP has not given any pricing details, or a release date for the Gigapan. Digital cameras which take high resolution panoramic images have been around for several years, but are expensive. One, made by PanoScan, costs $37,000. The following link is to a site that features a few of these panoramas. http://www.gigapan.org/. I thought everyone might get a kick out of these.

those flowers will turn to berries soon. it also has medicinal properties.. quote - Oregon Grape, Tall (Mahonia aquifolium) Family: Berberidaceae Perennial evergreen shrub. Native to the Pacific Northwest of the United States. The leaves resemble holly, and in the spring the bright yellow, compound flowers emit delightful fragrance, and soak up the dew like a sponge. Oregon Grape has a bitter and cold energy, serving as a gentle stimulant to liver function while it controls excessive secretions of the mucous membranes. It has thus been used to good effect for treating psoriasis, poor appetite, indigestion, oral herpes and bronchitis. Good for treating questionable water when travelling. Contains berberine and is therefore used as a Golden seal substitute. Rhizomes yield a golden dye. Cultivation: Extra care. Cold soil germinator. Sow outdoors in fall or early spring. Allow seedlings to grow for a year or more in nursery beds or in pots, then transplant to permanent location, 4 feet apart. Grows to 6 feet. here's a few pics from yesterdays canoe trip. a most beautiful beach with a small lagoon. water access only. heh, almost lost the canoe when the tide came back in. forgot to tie it down the first time

I'm about to go get a memory card. The prices vary a lot. I can get 2 X 2GB Kodac cards for $25 at W*****T. There are also cards as much as $50 for a 2GB card. Does it really make a difference? I just want to be able to store more than 8 pictures on my camera. I do want the pictures to be high quality, but I would think that would have more to do with the camera and not the card. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A 2 gb card should do you ok unless you take hundreds of pics at one go. I just got an 8 MP camera and my 2 gb card will hold almost 1000 pics at highest resolution.

Thanks. I am only going to get the 2 GB card. I guess the difference between a $12.50 2GB card and a $50 2 GB card is the speed that it will upload. I will probably just go with the $20 scandisk, I think that should suit me fine.

I have wanted to post something to this thread for a long time. I walked down to the Chilkat river this morning and got a few pix. I thought this one should be good enough to post...

A few pics from a recent trip... Were taken in complete darkness. The light on the first one is city lights reflected on the clouds. The second one is self explanatory....I hope. Taken with nikon d300 18-55mm vr lens and a tripod. 15 sec exposure. |

This is just a picture of my girl. Sorry, is posting a picture of my pet alright in this thread? She was smiling so I had to snap a shot. Her eyes didn't come out well in the picture though. I have a great picture in mind to take and will take it in the next couple of evenings (it's really beautiful).

Not the best picture. I was trying to hurry and find my camera and take a picture before they all disappeared. I was also still trying to figure out how to use my new camera. You can only see about half of them, the other half already disappeared into the woods. There were over 20 deer.
