Pink oyster - agar plate to dinner plate :)

    Hello all.

What we have here is the birth of something yummy delish, immaculate conception, to death, to the dinner plate. Pinks are not known as one of the better tasting of the Pleurotus species, but... that is a matter of opinion. Not only are they beautiful to watch grow, they taste awesome if cooked right. So, the journey begins, and you get to come along for the ride!

Things to come: Fried oysters, sautéed Oysters over rice served with homemade oinion wedges and chicken strips with a side of hot wing sauce. Can you say yummmmm? All homemade, and divine.

    The agar plate:

From agar plate to Wheat berry grains:

Spawned to Wood and some straw to colonize.

    Wood pellets/straw/ and pasteurization:

    Compressed wood (pre-soak) and mixed.

    Straw and pasteurization:

    Colonized and fruiting tub:

    To chopping block:

To sauce pan (hrm.. pic looks yellowed):

    To dinner plate:

Shown are pan sautéed Oysters with peas, carrots and broccoli served over rice with soy sauce also, fried pink oysters, chicken, onion wedges and white button mushrooms.

    Here are the recipes:

    The tempura style,

    White flour
fresh whole wheat toasted bread crumbs
    season all salt
    Sea salt
    parsley
    basil
    oregano
    fresh ground pepper
    chicken bullion powder
    onion powder
    garlic powder
    nutritional yeast
    cayenne pepper

The above dry ingredients are seasoned to taste and mixed.

    The batter

    Milk(or a Soy sub)
    eggs(or a vegan sub)
    Season all salt

Dip foods into batter, roll into flour mix. Repeat, because lots of coating is a yummy good treat.

Fry (Or bake) until golden brown.

    Mushrooms were
sautéed in in butter, lemon pepper and garlic salt.

    Dipping sauces:

    Ranch
    Honey-mustard
and a homemade hot wing sauce.

Hotwing sauce is made to taste but includes:

    lots of Cayenne pepper
    Louisiana hot sauce
    pepper
    Butter
    a bit of vinegar

It was a great meal and we ate well.

    And we'll start over again...
A pink Oyster print - circle of life and all of that.

    Whoops I forgot a pic...

Grains were spawned to wood sawdust bags:

And then spawned to straw tubs to colonize and fruit from.

yummm that plate looks delicious. Great presentation.

I've tried growing oysters twice now, and still no fruits. Those are beautiful one.

This is a very fun thread and they were so good to eat! The fruits grown out of the open tub like that are a bit smaller but they are many and perfect for stirfry or sautéing - Not much chopping involved.. One did a great job on this grow(as always) and from agar plate to dinner plate is pretty cool.

    Much love hon!

This is a pretty sweet pic... My favourite from the series - So pretty. (Hrmm, think I'll nominate it for Mays potm)
