| Forced fruiting experiment for P. Ovoids... After seeing Shobi's Azures fruiting out of season , i thought i would try manipulating my outdoor Ovoid patch to fruit again this year.. I collected about half of one patch and filled a kitty litter box with well colo'd chips.. Added some shredded mulch to fill gaps and to cover.. I started digging before i realized that a third flush was beginning ![]() The plan is to leave the tray outside for another month to allow the myc to re-knit , while feeding a very mild nutrient solution... Then move the tray to the fridge, then freezer for a few weeks.. The tray will then be encouraged to fruit in a cool room.. This patch which was created from stembutts, did give about 70g dry but feel it could have done better - this maybe an oportunity to maximize it's potential , with any luck... |

| Thanx... Ideally the best time for a second fruiting would be when outdoor temps have fallen back into the 50-60F range [for Ovoids] which means Oct/Nov here... Don't want to wait that long, so i'll use an air conditioned room and hope it's cool enough...If nothing kicks, then it's back to the fridge untill Fall.. |

| Since your's was beginning another break, there may be some hope for mine yet. Rhizos everywhere dying to fruit. Hopefully the night temperatures will be good enough to trigger fruiting. Good luck with that.

| I'm ready to move the tray to the fridge now as it's all knitted together .. Thinking 1 week there, then move to the deep freeze.. Been debating whether to cover completely or leave some breather vents..Think i will put some in... Twoguys , did your tray recover..? |

| i hope you dont mind golly. i placed the shoebox sized tray in the freezer with 1" compost on top. i am not sure for how long, when i remember it in a week or two probably i will take it out and water it then put it in the fridge. here is a pic of the beginning of my outdoor bed. after the pic i added some compost, small twigs and branches of applewood and a layer of hardwood leaf (1/2 composted). i need to go get another bag of the mulch to top it off and some more leaves i think. the bed is 3' x 8'. |

| I took the P.Ovoid tray back out of the fridge after about 2 months of chillin.. Tray has been sitting under a tree for about 10 days and now showing signs of life around the edges -pin dance.. ![]() They're a bit tiny right now but will get a pic in a day or two.. Temps have been 50-70F which is close to their normal springtime fruiting temp.. |

| Cool... So what would be the procedure with azure/cyan..? I guess u would bring them inside after fruiting ,so they can continue to Colo at room temp, then set them out in early spring to fruit b4 temps warm too much... Now would be a good time to start a cyan tray which could be ready to go outside by March...Hmmm -mebbe i try dat... |

| The squirrels are mostly looking for places to bury their walnuts.. Turns out ,there is a lot of side pinning as some light is penetrating the tub walls.. So i flipped it out to harvest and will let it remain as a cake for any further fruiting..There were some really dense masses ,although not too pretty.. At this point , i think the test was worthwhile, especially since new pins are still forming..We def fooled 'em into flushing out of season... So the plan now ,is to wait for another flush ,then let the myc recover for a month at room temp.. After that ,i'll set the tray out for their natural winter chill , so they can fruit again in April.. |

| What were the temps like during this forced-fruiting ? Many of us have greenhouses that could be heated to a certain temp during winter. ![]() Great job BTW.

| Temps primarily 50s - 60s..I can't eliminate the crack around the edges ,so i think i'll flip it out as a cake to begin fruiting next time and have the tray cover it loosely, to hold moisture..Mebbe elevate a half inch for air flow around the cake... |

| nice work golly! i know side growth is sometimes not welcomed but to me, that looks great. and a few more runs and you will have that strain down! you could lay down a black plastic bag in the tub before hand when you spawn.
