| Honey extract Tek for Cubensis Ok , the second preparation of this extract has proven itself, so thought i would give a quick guide to the method.. This extraction/preservation method makes for a convenient,tasty and stealthy way to store your psilly.. The finished product does not smell,taste or look like a shroomage product at all , just a dark thick honey with a slight orange flavour.. The extraction efficiency is about 80% afa i can tell.. The first extraction of P. Ovoids from a couple months ago ,has held up really well in the fridge..I would suggest freezing for long term though.. Stuff u need..Of special importance, is a large heavy fry pan and rubber spatula..Also the ascorbic acid crystals [health food store] ![]() Set up your quarter pint honeyjar ,so it is heating in a small pot with water.. This will sanitize the jar and make the honey more fluid.. Sit the jar on it's lid so the heat doesn't crack it..Set the stove on low and cover- [IMG] [/IMG]Crush your mush [40 g dry] and in a saucepan add 1 quart water and a Tbsp of Ascorbic acid crystals..This helps with the extraction/preservation of the magic.. ![]() Simmer the mush for 25 mins..and setup your strainer ..I use a piece cut from a poly dress shirt -lasts for many many extractions and has a tight weave for fine filtering.. Lay the material in a colander standing in the frypan.. ![]() After 25 min simmer , pour everything into the filter and allow to drain.. ![]() Pick up the filter cloth and squeeze out the remaining juice..[wearing rubber gloves helps ALOT heh... ![]() Put the filter back in place and slowly pour 1/2 cup cold water into the mush. So now it has cooled some , you can really twist the crap out of it without burning up.. ![]() Now begin frying down your extract ,use moderate to high heat but u must stir continuously especially as it begins to thicken..Don't want to burn the goods but we gotta make good time too .. As it thickens to the point shown above , it's time to add the heated honey. Both the honey and the cooked extract will have the same degree of syrupyness heh.. Only about half of the jar is added so you have room for everything..discard the extra ![]() Cook a few minutes longer and stir constantly..Then pour into your now empty honey jar.. ![]() As you can see by the spoonfull i scooped out , it has a jelly like texture once cooled.. It's good stuff peeps..The biggest pita with this is, the constant stirring required for 30 mins ,so pull up a stool..heh From start to finish, this should take exactly one hour..Any longer then your risking a loss of goods. Enjoy... |

| I really don't know the heat destruction curve for the magic but it seems to be quite resistant with an hour of boiling.. The estimated 20% loss is partly due to , extracting 40g into a single qt of water, alkaloids still trapped in the mush and proly the heating.. If you have a Butt load of shroomage, then 20% doesn't mean much really... Someone could try going for an 80g halfpint but the cook time will be longer, unless you have two big fry pans...Who knows, mebbe 90 mins isn't that destructive... |

| Storage at room temp , i have no idea as to safety or potency retention.. Refridgerated for 8 weeks, the first extract is still very close to it's original strength.. I suspect that freezing maybe good for years..I haven't actually tried a freeze/thaw but i will, with this new jar.... Thnx again for the good vibes guys... ![]() |

| I can't recall exactly, but I reduced either 12 or 15 grams of cubensis down to a single shot nearly. I remember it damn near turned into a paste and it tasted like a limey shroom juice. Terrible! Bitter bear face for sure.

| To figure dosage, divide the number of ml. in the jar by the number of grams used in the extract ..In this case 125ml divided by the 40g dry ..With the efficiency at 80% , that means only 32 of the 40 grams are converted to usable dosing.. so 125ml divided by 32g = 4ml per gram.. Any hoo , it comes out to 1 and quarter teaspoons per gram pretty much... |

| Awesome write, very easy recipe. I've never done honey before. Do you think you could use fresh shrooms for this recipe?

| Yes , it should be easy to go directly to extract with fresh shrooms ..You could put 400g in a blender with a pint and half water , then just go long enough to chop , not liquify.. This way they'll be easier to filter and leave a cleaner product.. That would certainly save the hassle of drying first..I haven't tried with fresh but it should work ... |

| I don't recommend using fresh mushrooms for anything that is going to be stored for too long. Anything over a day or 2 and the potency is terrible. I guess if you handled it like rocket fuel, then you would be a lot better off. Dry mushrooms are really the way to go with teas, juices and stuff like this more than likely. The problem with fresh fungus is that it oxidizes to damn easy and is vulnerable to heat.

| I agree with Lazlo on this one... I've had it explained before by a knowledgeable chemist before (concerning mainly fresh mushroom honey) Something bad happens is all I remember, not dangerous but not good. I didn't understand a word. ![]() But IME cracker dry honey, at room temp, in the dark will last for years with no noticeable loss in potency. I cant say the same for 'fresh mushroom honey' which seems to spoil. |

| maybe the water content left in the freshies and the easy degrading of magic? Since water extracts the magic so easily, fresh would seem to not hold potency as well in honey as dry fungus.

| I agree that a freshie tea will weaken quickly. In this case, your eliminating most of the water content and ending up with an oily essence , which really is no different than when the mush is re-hydrated from it's dried state , then reduced in this honey Tek.. Any tea made from rehydrated mush will also degrade rapidly with time but by reducing and storing in honey , the degradation is clearly halted .. Truth is, the only way to really know , is to do the experiment.. I just don't see the difference between drying / re-hydrating and using fresh.. |

| I've stored leftover teas in the fridge for a few months and they'd knock you sideways just like the day they were prepared. Preparing with dry mushrooms is the key.

| Either way...IMHO. I've done it both ways. I do find that you get rid of a lot of mushie taste when you use dry, which is a plus. My favorite extraction is dry mush + everclear for 24 hrs., then mix w/ cold O.J. and chug. Mmmm....tasty. And it takes the edge off! ![]()
