![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Pictures of a HUGE Spider Eating a Bird! ![]() I wish I'd found this before Halloween. That is one insanely gigantic spider. If you're reading this before going to bed then allow me to wish you sweet dreams! I wish the pictures gave a better sense of scale. The bird is a chestnut-breasted mannikin, which are are about 4 inches (10-11 cm) tall. A few more pics are found at the original article... http://www.cairns.com.au/article/200...ocal-news.html ![]()

if i walked out into my backyard and saw that i dont think i'd be able to go outside for a few days. camping in hawaii i got used to waking up with strange large bugs in my tent, from massive millipedes and centipedes, to scorpions and other spiders, but if i woke up with one of those on my chest i would probably flatline right there.

i love spiders, and that is one lucky spider to have caught a bird. it won't even be able to finish that. can't wait till my chaco golden knee is full grown (8 inches) then i can feed it pinky mice every once in awhile

The Australian Redbacks (same genus as the Black Widow) gets pretty big, but I don't think that damn big, as well.. and can catch and eat snakes. Nasty scary there, though, running face to face with one of them would likely be the last time for me..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I bet a can of Raid wouldn't kill it due to the size of that beastie. Besides, that would be inhumane. Me, I would would beat the living shit out of it with the can a few times...yeah, that'd prolly do it.

There are some deadly things living in Australia. There is another spider that is much smaller, but its venom can kill within an hour. Can't remember what it's called though. There are also tiny jelly fish along the coastal waters that can kill you if you get stung enough. They carry a powerful neurotoxin. When i was there in June, i would skype with my fella every day and he'd always end the call with "Don't go outside! Don't go in the water! Things will eeeeeeeat you!"

One night when I was getting ready to go to bed in a hotel that happened to be in Tahiti, I saw a spider on the wall of my hotel room. I could hold my hand over it with my fingers spread and the tips of it's legs would still stick out farther than my fingers, and I have large hands. And it was one of those thick meaty spiders that looked like it could open a door by itself, nothing like one of those large but skinny daddy-longlegs that are almost cute... Anyhow, it was faster than I expected and when I made a move against it it darted behind the dresser. Damn I was tired, but I started rearranging the furniture and trying to track the bastard down. I failed. I just had to either stay up all night looking for a spider or go to sleep. I figured it was probably there the night before, too, so to hell with it- I went to sleep. I know it's an urban legend, but I went to bed thinking about how someone had told me that "they say" people eat an average of 4 spiders a year in their sleep, but I felt strangely comforted in the fact that I knew the spider I shared my room with couldn't fit in my mouth. Just thought I'd share another spider story. Sweet dreams!

man. i dont think i could have slept in that situation. i would have surrounded my bed with rat traps, taped to the wall and everything. a friends pet tarantula is no problem to me, but the larger wild spiders freak me out way too much.

Well damn, you win! Yours is real! He needs a shave, too. (BTW: Your post reminded me of fishing tarantulas out of the pool fairly often when I was a kid in Southern California. They weren't too big as far as tarantulas go, but small tarantulas are still pretty damn big.)
