One big ass tub

Well the title says it all.This was actually a mistake as I was stoned while pasteurizing and screwed up my measurements pretty bad.Was suppose to be around 17 quarts worth of sub and it came out to around 26 quarts.I decided to just go with it and see what happens.I tried a sub this big once before but I was still rather inexperienced at the time and was failed by many different mistakes.Hopefully this one will come out a bit better.It does have the disadvantages of low spawn ration(%40) and just being extremely hard to mix well..Nothing I can do now but just sit back and watch.

I think you'll be fine with that spawn ratio. just let it do its thing. 40% is a good spawn ratio, i go as low as 25-30%. To mix big spawn like that I line the bottom of the tub with a garbage bag, flatten the bottom out, then mix by hand. after you've mixed by hand and think it looks good, start tossing the whole tub like you would a saute pan. not too high but it will bring excess spawn to the top. then remix by hand. you'll get a better mix that will be more homogenous (sp?). give it 5 days and toss it if its stinky.

The strain is South American multispore.I'll try the thing about tossing the sub to mix next time cause I have noticed it seems WBS has a tendency to sink to the bottom when mixing by hand.It would have been a bit hard to toss it around like that with this tub though.45 quarts of wet straw/wbs/hpoo isn't exactly light lol

Lol nah I mean just introduce lower temps and light.Currently dont have a tub big enough to fruit it as a cake but that would be sweet.

Just wanted to update and say that it's just now showing knots.Hopefully it won't be long now.On a side note the larger tubs get Hot!!I've got a rather big bed and have this tub sitting on one of the corners of it.Happened to notice the heat coming from it today and slid my hand underneath to find a considerable amount of heat.The plastic wasn't warm but was actually hot enough to give a stinging sensation to the skin atop of my hand.I figure that wasn't good for it so I got it sitting on blocks now.Pics to come when pins appear

I incubate all my tubs in a large closet with a small heater at around 78-80 F.I really didn't even need the temp that high for this tub due to the heat it's putting off but I had other projects in the works.After incubating I just let my AC take care of the job of keeping a steady 72 - 74 F.I wouldn't be surprised if the temp is around 80 degrees inside the tub though

Those I used for spacers to keep the condensation from running into the sub.Normally I wouln't do this cause I have enough plastic to fold up around the edges and that itself prevents pooling problems.I did not anticipate having run out of plastic and was forced to improvise with spacers and also sloping the sub in one corner where the plastic ran short.I had a huge bag full of them with no idea what to use them for so it worked out well.

Got pins but very few toward the center.I believe this is because I was constantly soaking up excess moisture.I was wiping the lid and soaking up water 2 to 3 times a day and it was still forming lots of droplets.Maybe it will fill out in the second flush.Real problem is that I can't fan the tub at all from 8 AM to 6 PM because of work during weekdays.And this tub really needs all the extra FAE it can get.

It looks like you will still get a good amount out of that flush. I bet after a good surface scratch and a dunk your second flush will kick ass.

tub's looking great MM

don't worry too much about the fanning though, once a day is really all it needs... excessive FAE will actually dry it out and stunt the growth (i learned this the hard way, now i am a big fan of neglecting my tubs).

Sorry for the long time with no update but time flys and I have too much on my plate but the tub turned out alright.When I went to dunk it I realized the bottom was partially uncolonized where the wbs wasn't spread evenly.So I dug a special spot in the garden for it and am anticipating boomers.Thanks for joining me with the grow guys

Well it seems to be preforming better outdoors than indoors.I've already picked a few giants off of here waying in at 80 and 90 wet grams but this takes the cake.I was very pleased when I walked out to find this to say the least!I wish I would have takin pics as they matured but I didn't know they were going to pop up like this.All the mature shrooms were picked and weighed 800 grams.

potatoskill - I believe that was due to me soaking up moisture so frequently which messed up my pin set.

apokalypse - I try to pick before they drop loads of spores so I didn't get a measurement.

Actually it's been in the 90's and it hasn't rained for days.I'm using some type of breathable cloth stretched over top to keep humidity in and pest out.After that it's just as simple as letting nature take it's course.Certainly beat just throwing sub away.
