![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Redboy Coir/BRF Cake
Here are a few pictures of a little experiment of mine. It is a BRF cake (Redboy 1st gen. clone) mixed 1:1 with some coir. The fruits are a little skinny, but I fanned it maybe once a day. I thought it was kind of pretty though. There was a lid on the container as well, so the spots on the caps are due to contact with that lid. My main reason for this one was just to see if the coir increased the cake's yield. As of now, I would say it hasn't, but this is the first flush. And there are a bunch of pins. I will dunk this thing after I get some prints from a few of the fruits. Thanks for checking it out! |

Thanks for the replies. TCO, it is a small container--5" high, 4 1/2" wide. It's one of those fruit/cookie containers you get at grocery stores. I use this type of container to fruit invitro cakes when I want prints and clone tissue. The mix is one crumbled 1/2 pint cake to the same amount of badly broken-up coir (I am lazy). I have been working with Redboy for a few years now--mostly invitro. The clones do extremely well, covering most of the surface of a typical cake. The fruits can be very big, going from an almost red cap to the lighter ones y'all see in the pictures. The trip is really strong IMO for a cubie. Actually, the hardest I ever tripped on shrooms was about 35 wet grams of fresh RBs--I will never forget that one! I will try to get some pics of the invitro cakes, prolly just add it to this thread. TCO, weren't you involved in bringing this strain back to life? |

Roger Rabbit! I hadn't heard that name around here in a while. I guess he is guru-in-residence over at that other site. He has done some great work, though. Hats off to Lazlo as well--a wise person. What ever happened to Hyphae? MIA? TCO, I loved your thread on Psilocybe Semperviva. Eight flushes are unbelievable. Maybe nine by now with that. And it is a species more rarely grown. Too cool! I will hopefully have some pics up this evening. My wife is a camera hog! |

Okay, here are some Redboy invitro cakes and a Redboy coir/popcorn cake which looks as though it will yield nicely. A few of the cakes are on late flushes. There is no fanning with this stuff--I just set it in my grow space and leave it be. The last picture is of two cakes inoculated on 8-08; they are looking okay. It is nothing special, but it gets me by. Sorry about the pics--I am not much of a photog. |

Thanks, dude. I hope you and Belle are doing well. I am just lazy about pictures, but I will try to post more in the future. I wonder why we don't see more Redboy grows? Great friggin' strain--and you know I am willing to spread the spores. |

Thank y'all for the comments. I figure fruiting them in a clear container would provide more side and bottom pinning. This little cake worked out much better than I thought it would--especially since it's so simple. And I think that is 1000 posts for me! |

Congratulations bro ^^ I think this side fruiting is good, but I don´t like to take out to the jars to peek the shrooms (I´m a little paranoic), but it seems to be better seeing your log ![]() Nice man, nice

I love to see how durable some strains are? it's crazy!! Neglect the sh*t out of it, sometimes they turn out better! I had a cat litter tray that I put 3-4 Qts WBS cased and when it was ready to have light all I did was cover the top with a peice of plastic, mist once a day, never aired out, except to mist thing did fantastic, probably my best tray to date!"Ritter" |

I think a lot of projects fail because of people trying to inject excess complexity into the processes. I fruited a bulk sub in a plastic filing box with a loose fitting lid. All I did was take the lid off three times a day (waking up, getting home, going to bed) and fan it out. That sucker spat out three nice flushes.

That is a great picture. B+? The most problems I have had were projects that I screwed with too much. Being patient is one of the toughest things to do when you are trying a new tek or don't have the Cliff Claven mindset, lol! |

Yep, my very favorite B+ isolate. Popcorn spawn to coir:castings:Poly (40:40:20). Incubated in a cardboard box on top of the fridge. Fruited sitting under a window with ambient light and thrice daily manual fanning. It was a total simplicity/neglect Tek project. The idea was just to see what somebody could do without buying anything besides a spore syringe, a bag of popcorn spawn, a bag of bulk substrate and a plastic file box. That is also why I did the PF cakes in a Tupperware cake holder thread. I should do another thread on how easy it is to do this stuff by mail ordering cakes/popcorn/substrate. I'm a big fan of simplicity and I really don't understand why folks (especially newbies) try to overly complicate this hobby.

yea i dont really ever see or hear about red boys. only starins i have under my belt are palenque, amazon,B+, and in two days i will have a bpk under my belt. so to be working on tia lipa yai and 2 other un chosen strains thinking of going with something rare like redboys or maybe try some pans. nice grow by the way and a lil question on how much of a yeild diffrence you notice between invitro and fruiting the cakes in a fc. peace, masterplain88 |

I've done a lot of invitro stuff. If there is sufficient space inside the invitro container for fruits to form, you can get within 85%-95% of a "straight FC fruiting" harvest with invitro.

Ok; I just did a search for Redboy and stumbled upon the lengthy thread from November of '05. I had no prior knowledge of this strain before reading that thread. I must say wow. I am rather intrigued... After reading the posts about these particular mushrooms I really want to experiment with them. Jammer, are your fruits bruising green? And thank you for lighting a fire under my ass! Anyone, is there a vendor that is a supporter of the Top that offers prints of this strain? |

They can bruise almost a greenish hue, which can get your heart racing if you think you have contams--both the mycelium and the fruits. I got the original RB spores about three years ago from a sponsor, and somehow I have managed to keep them going this long (thanks to Fahtster's clone jar tek). As I have said, this is a very aggressive strain, and it produces almost solid stems, a lot of big fruits, and very potent as far as cubies go. I also have some Amazons going right now, and the RBs are a much stronger trip. There are so many cubie strains that I suppose it is easy for some to get lost in the crowd. This one was revived by old Peter Cottontail himself, as TCO informed me. Wow, Hip, you have prints of RR's batch! I bet you have a print of almost all cubie strains known to humanity and many other species as well. Unbelievable! Again, a big "thank you" to all who've commented in this thread. Y'all are the best. |

Oh, man, I lost track of this thread. God, what an incredible collection! A document of all the great mycological undertakings during that timespan and happening now, especially since the weather is becoming more agreeable to this hobby. Anyway here are some pics of a Redboy MS BRF cake (pics 1 and 2)which was intially grown invtro, then transferred to a quart container so that I can get some prints for my friends in Brazil. There's also a shot of a little pinning on an MS Amazon invitro cake (pic. 3). |

I believe the name actually derives from the alleged "redness" of the prints--maybe a little less purplish but not so different from other cubies IME. The caps go from a very caramel color to a light brown as they mature--at least mine do. I believe Buck is Irish--so that might have some to do with it, lol. |

I am not sure how rare RBs are any more. I think most spore vendors have them in stock.
