![]() ![]() | Thai on popcorn/horse manure, need advice
Hi, This is my first post. First of all thanks to all people sharing all the great pictures and knowledge here. Been enjoying this site for awhile in anonymity. Here are some pictures from my latest growth. This is an unknown thai-strain I got from a friend which I have grown on popcorn spawned on horse manure in a 50/50 mix. The casing layer is cactus soil and vermiculite, also 50/50. This is the first time I try hose manure and was expecting bigger mushrooms than before but it turned out I got mostly pinky sized ones. I wonder if you have any idea what might be the cause of this? I myself suspect I don't have enough water for the mycelium to support this many mushrooms in larger size. I didn't mist that much. For the second flush I will try to mist much more and for the third I will dunk. I've always had problems with small capsize. I heard this is due to bad FAE. What can I do to improve this with my current setup? Today I fan manually about 5 times a day and I have some holes with polyfill as you can see on one of the pictures. Should I increase the amount of holes? I am quite poor right now but I intend to add an aquarium bubbler in the future. Any comments on the pin set? This is from a multispore syringe. I will add another tray soon and will update this thread with some more pictures. |

Welcome to Mycotopia! Very nice results IMO. ![]() Can't complain about that beautiful pinset. :-) Size - How deep is the substrate?

As OM said, that is a most beautiful grow--nothing to complain about. Use a lot more spwan and substrate if you want bigger yields. Clone from a cluster of good size fruits if you want larger shrooms. But your results are quite excellent! |

Hi thanks for the nice comments! Yeah I am happy with the pinset for sure so no complaints there. But I aim for perfection and my goal is to be able to grow pan.cyanescens in the future and I doubt I will succeed with that under these conditions. My substrate layer is about 5cm deep. That's the thickest I ever had and I have produced way bigger mushrooms than this but I've mostly been working with B+ which is known for producing big ones too. Updates: This strain is really amazing. It already started to pin again within two days after I harvested. Do you change your misting pattern after it start to pin? Some people say it will cause more aborts if you mist while pinning but I am not so sure. |

Since, you are dunking there is no need to mist until the sub looks dry. Just let them do there thing. Sending you some great growing vibes on another beautiful harvest and Welcome to Mycotopia.

That is a very good grow. I would not mist it more. It looks very good. You can dunk it between flushes. Do not dunk it with lots of new pins. If you want bigger mushrooms, you need more substrate. A depth of 3-4 inches (8-10 cm) will make larger mushrooms. Next time, take all the Perlite out and fill the whole tub with bulk substrate.

Ok the second flush is done. I am very pleased with the pin set. Had a few too many aborts, probably due to misting too much. I will dunk it before the third flush and I will not mist it after I see pins this time. Hope for some bigger ones for the later flushes. I also added another tray. I am very pleased with how the casing layer looks so I hope for a great pin set. |

Here are some more pics from the first flush of the second tray I added and the third of the first one. Pretty stoked about the results. Best flush I ever got actually. I did some changes. I stopped misting ones I saw pins coming. Definitely think I reduced the number of aborts by doing this. I also found this funky mutant. Hope you enjoy the pics!

Perfect once again!! Your results are incredible, especially considering it's only 5 cm deep!! Thanks for sharing!

Definitely a great grow man....if this is from a print not a clone then its almost unbelievable! You must have found then perfect set up for yourself and I would say to keep your grow perimeters exactly where you have them! You have out done yourself almost before you got started! ![]() ![]()
