![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | First Bulk Trays, woot!
Foaf is doing his first ever bulk grow. It started with 5 jars of colonized corn, two of which were inoculated with LC clone tissue from a Z strain boomer. One jar went in to each tray (provided from one of Hip's intermediate kits) and spawned to a mix of about 50/30/20 hpoo, coir and verm. The substrate was PC'd for one hour or so and allowed to cool (I know, better to pasteurize, next time we'll get it right) inside the PC, then squeezed out the excess moisture from the pillowcase used inside the PC. Layered a little over an inch of substrate, spread the pint of colonized corn over that surface, then laid another inch plus over top to completely cover the corn. I estimate a depth of about 3 inches. Trays were covered with foil and some holes poked in them. The trays were placed in a sterilite tub that was upside down so that the trays would fit (barely) in the widest part of the tub. This way, the lid is on the table, the trays placed on the lid that was lined with foil and some wet perlite, and the whole thing covered with some towels to incubate. 12 days later, the colonized trays have been opened and covered with the sterilite tub. Hoping for the best!

Thanks everybody, I'm really stoked. We couldn't have done this without all the support and combined knowledge that this site affords. Everybody here gets a little of the credit. Y'all are great!

Congratulations, man! Looking good. Be sure they are getting plenty of fresh air. I would be fanning those trays 3 times a day, if they were mine...

Six days after fruiting we have a pin forest! This is three days after the very first 3 or 4 pins, I'm just freakin' amazed.... Harvest in, what, another 2 or 3? This is unexplored territory for FOAF. The biggun in the center was pin number one for these trays, he's about 3" tall right now. Thanks for all the vibes!!

great job! yeah, flushes pop up so fast once they start, it's crazy. you wait and wait for pins, then just one lonely pin pops up...... and an hour later, you have 20.... and then 200.... it's an EXPLOSION! i love that. i'd say 3 days max til your harvest. congratulations!

Came home from work today and FOAF had harvested the one biggest shroom, it weighed 47.25 grams wet. Very nice. Made that baby into the tea for halloween night and drank half and half with him and we went to a great party. First time I've ever tripped shrooms in public. It was pretty fun, 3D haunted house and everything. Now we're back and it looks like the harvest is gonna have to be done tonight. Some of the boomers have already started to drop spores, and others look like they're not far behind. The boomers wait for no man.

The beauty of harvesting your first bulk grow on Halloween night, with a full moon outside the window, cannot be overrated. Still coming down from the night's trip, FOAF plucked a total of 358.28 wet grams of beautiful Z strain boomer clones. Thanks Freq, and glad you like the watch, it's one of my favorites. Just a $35 knockoff Hublot, but I love it!

No prints on this flush, it was way too late at night and no energy for being as careful as needed. Maybe next flush, cause these babies are growing quite nicely.

Thanks you guys, I'm pretty impressed with the results myself. Tonight the cakes were dunked for about 20 minutes each. The sub seemed to soak up quite a bit of moisture, not sure if the time was sufficient, but they definitely weighed more after the dunk than before. There's a lot of coir in there and it looks like it sponged up a lot of water. They're still in the trays at this point. What do you guys think of the supercake method? I've seen where people remove the whole cake from the tray and set it on top of some overturned mason jars so that it can fruit from all sides. Is this a good way to do things and does it really increase yield?

i did bulks only once(first timer) and did three of them and found the one's with higher hpoo ratio had better colinization and seemed a lil more contam resistant. all of them turned out well fruits from the higher hpoo ratio were bigger and thicker. harvest were a lil heavyer. but flush number was the same tho shrooms in last flush of higher hpoo ratio were bigger. this could all be do to strain and growing conditons in my cultivation ways but i find the hpoo in my first experiment to do pretty good. my next is just hpoo and coir when i get a chance. masterplain88 |

The trays have pinned again pretty well, but excess moisture is causing a bit of rot. FOAF has lost about a dozen pins to a sort of black rot that heīs seen before from overwatering some of his cased cakes a while back. Heīs allowing for much more frequent FAE and even airing the trays out for 20-30 minutes at a time until it gets back under control. There are still plenty of healthy pins growing but thereīs always the danger of losing them because of excess moisture. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this before. Seems like his dunk might have been a bit too much more than enough...

Well, those trays have been thrown out into the garden. The sub had turned dark greenish black in most areas and didnīt look so healthy. I believe it was a bacterial infection as a result of the dunk using tap water. Some have had success using tap water and some have not, so I guess this means that in this area itīs not a good thing to do. But hey, itīs a learning process. Good start, lousy finish but a good experience nevertheless.
