![]() | 'Topia City Server Performance Poll I am posting this poll to get an idea of what our members are experiencing for server performance. As many of you know we have recently gone through some changes and we have no other way to really gauge things except by asking the people that use this site. Why are we doing this? Well, because we have thousands of members from all over the world and that is a better sample size then we could ever try and duplicate under controlled conditions. What would we like you to do? Please answer these polls honestly, afterall, it's in your best interest since server performance directly affects you. So if you would, just take a second to answer the poll and post any comments you'd like. I will be reviewing these threads daily for the results. -peace ![]() |

![]() ![]() | I dumped my 5meg cable service and went with 1.5meg dsl and it is just as quick! Why is real simple... my neighborhood cable has too many game players that saturate the shared cable and my dsl link is direct to the switch so guess which it faster??? DSL topology is better in a busy neighborhood than cable!

| I install dsl everyday and I like cable... BTW dsl is shared once it reaches the dslam.. But one thing your right about surfing and gaming you really dont see much difference, then go wireless and down load a 2g file or try up loading 100 pics from a digi camera to wal-mart to print out...Then you will come to love 10mb over 1.5. PS we also install 3 and 6 mb over copper and 12 and 25 over fiber. Ive never noticed a slow down, sure its shared bandwidth but only with a select few in my subdivision..and as i said before they are both really shared to a degree.. But I respect your decision roc, cause hey peeps like you with dsl pay my bills..hehehe 30 bucks a month for 10mb down and 1mb up I cant go wrong. |

It's not all about pipe size, it's about how fast the shit moves down the pipe. I like the cost factor as well... it takes a couple of us to pay for one of yours. I respect you as well my friend! What the hell ya been up to anyway?

The key to what you said though is what hip and I have been experiencing. Since we upgraded and moved servers, again, we seem to be hitting a lot of latency and the site is really slow at times, and times out at others. Looking over the comments and 3 polls I posted it would seem that most are on cable and most think the site is fast... average or above. So with that then it would seem that only a select few are experiencing the samething hip and I are - which seems to depend solely on the route we take from our isp to the server. It also sucks that since we're both on a lot we have the slowest connection to the box. lol We're working on some things so hopefully we can clear it up, but still, it sucks cause it's a LOT of work to move all this stuff around and it's even more difficult to find a reliable datacenter with a fast connection to the majority of our members. grrr ![]() Thanks too all for the votes and comments - they will be used to determine the future of 'Topia City.... ![]() | |

![]() | raise funds for bigger sever, :I know sqwat about servers forgive me" Why not make a raffle ticket kick ass shroom kits with spores maybe even spawn, and members from the right/legal mailing countrys could purchase their tickets via mail 5 bucks cash, and when every month say 1 kit per mounth, for 3 mounths, that would be cool.Eny lazy mushroom lover would find that kind of cool. |

![]() | ''off topic''..Yeah,that's no way to tread a (good) person, those people aren't doing anyone any harm and they get more yail time then someone who kills poeple ! But we will track to much attention if we promote selling live myc...and we do not want that attention ! And I think auctions works well, and maybe Mycotopia members should donate more often to Mycotopia,I too forget sometimes.... I have used this site for years now and only donated a little cash and some prints from time to time, but I and alot more people here should do it more often ! ![]()

![]() | I have ADSL, 1024kbps down and 128kbps up. Brazilian internet connections actually sucks a lot. But they're getting better, there are already 8mbps cable and dsl for common people, but that shit is a lot expensive yet and the upload isn't as good as i see with people outside Brazil. |

![]() | Fiber optic here, generaly very fast and little latency on fast and close servers. I find most of the internet capped at well under 1MbPS though so I never get much chance to flex my speed. Peer to peer transfers are rediculously fast though, down and up. Last edited by Deft : 03-24-07 at 00:31. Reason: addition |
