I have had long hair on and off throughout my life. I jsut recently cut it to go to court, so i looked like a good college kid. Even though i dont go to school, hey i think my impression worked. I wasnt planning on cutting it this time til it was near ass length. buuuuuuuttttt, cops suck and they do profile you, just like many other people of the world.

I had long hair for the past several years but I also cut it for court.

I'm kinda glad I did because working outside in the heat of the summer, long hair would aggravate the shit out of me sometimes!

But I'm sure it will grow out again sometime

Had long hair years ago (about 12 years + ago). I started growing hydro and I decided that it would be best for me to cut it short and take on the "clean cut" look. Every once in awhile I let it grow out, but with my lifestyles and the things that I do, I think it's best for me to keep it short. I have people that eventually find out I smoke weed and they always seem to say "what? You smoke weed? I never would have thought that you smoke, you look so straight edge). If they only knew.

When I was in jail, they called me either 90210 or Agent (and then my last name), they said I looked like a cop or like I belonged on some tv series like 90210.

I can see how it's a symbol for a free spirit.
I keep long hair because it's not the norm.

    and I can't say i'm normal..

    omg... lol....

you are saying that you keep your long hair because "its not the norm." = free spirit...

    exactly what i meant...

p.s. there are no normal ppl, only pretenders.
by being "normal" you follow others ideas, free spirit ppl are shepherds not sheeps... WAR is normal, ppl got used to it, but "free spirit/minded" ppl realize that peace cant come from war, exactly as hate is not the opposite of love.
i must practice my english, i have alot what to say but not enough words to descirbe my notions... hope you understood.

    i've seen Narcs with long-hair
    and freaks with IBM cuts-
    it means very little,
    just part of the

the pressure from society to look-talk-walk-eat-think-etc beats down most of the ppl, all i know i have "open check" from my mum if i would cut my hair, and i have alot of presure like :"you won`t get a job with that hair..." and etc...

imo , tagging ppl by how the look is just another way of racism.
personally im looking into the eyes of the person and not on his color/hair length/etc...

i lost my point along the line (way) here... damn this :

    "....it means very little,
    just part of the
    projected image.
see what i want you to see...."

makes me feel very small... and foolish.
just wanted to see if my prejudice were right and i realized that im "narow minded..." lol.
thanks for that slap hip. i needed that.

I use to have long hair. I have had long hair most of my life up until about 8 yrs ago. I was looking in the mirror one day and realized that my hair looked like a bad double comb over(I had it parted down the middle). So I went for my trimmers(or I bought some I can't remember) and shaved it completely off. The best part was when I went over to one of my best friends house he opened the door and just stared at me for like a minute or 2 wondering who this was. It wasn't until after I asked him if he was going to let me in or what that he realized who I was. That was really funny.

I'm going to throw in a woman's perspective here... When i was a teenager, i thought guys with long hair were totally hot. To me it equated bucking authority, not being in the main stream, and probably liking good music (i was a heavy metal/rocker chick back then). I always thought boys with short hair looked way too clean cut.

When i met my fella back in the later 90's, he had long hair. At the time i thought it looked fine, but by that time i had progressed to liking the look that flattered a person's face and overall look instead of my own preferences. My fella cut off his hair before we started dating and now i can't imagine it any other way. I like it a little bit shaggy, but definitely short.

I can't say that i don't like long hair anymore, but to me it's about both grooming and being age appropriate. I don't particularly care for the ungroomed look; i like for a guy to make a little effort over how he looks. If i have to wear a bra when i leave the house, a guy can get a trim every couple of months. Long hair does not have to be thin and scraggly with split ends everywhere.

Also, having long hair when you get older tends to age a person. Sorry to all you older hippies, but it's true. When i finally got the hack job this summer, my brother said i looked 10 years younger when i walked out of the salon. Long hair tends to be one of the exuberant signs of youth; hanging on to it too long into your adulthood gives a certain impression that you might want to consider. Just my 2 cents.

i`m 22. and im from isreal.

(that`s why my english is so lame... keep laughing at my grammer mistakes, i dont mind... just as you were talking with me on hebrew/russian {im origanally from Estonia} you would have those grammer mistkes too, im thinking on hebrew and that`s why im doing those mistakes)

after couple of years at the IDF (israeli army), where i had to have max hair length of 3cm and shave every day i find it as a relief to live by my own rules, which one of them is that no one is gonna tell me how to look, talk, feel, act....

there for im not a rebel teenager at the age of 16 listening to heavy rock,
im 22yo that finally can do whatever i feel like doing. one of those thing is my hair, i always wanted and never had the "guts"...

"free spirit"=being yourself (short hair, long hair, bald, i dont mind, just being who ever you want to be and not as the others want you to be)

TastyBeverage, thanks for sharing with us your opinion.
i agree with you, but there are other circumstances in life, and imo you should love your appearance... i prefer myself with long hair though i would look 10 times better with a short hair... i just follow my dreams... it`s might sound a bit naive but the routine is very borring, and when my long hair will become routine and not advanture ill cut it off. not for anybody, and not for any price. only when i`ll feel like i got tired of it.

I definitely think you should do what feels right for you and to have fun with your own look. You're young and at an age where you can get away with experimenting and sporting a wilder look. I am however 10 years older than you and i was mostly speaking for people in my general age group or older.

Oh it makes me sad. I had long hair, and it was nice. I never tied it up unless I had to for work...and always let it loose right when I got off.
It never bothered me much in the summer. I kept it nicely combed and didn't look scaggley. Wavy, long brown hair down to the bottom of my back.

I cut it a bunch of years ago when I was going to do some work with highschool kids and didn't want a lot of questions....and wanted to get hired. Since then I changed jobs to a position where I can grow hair where ever I want!

But...anyway...to make a long story short....
I'm balding now. There's nothing more sad than a balding person with long hair. (In some cases it's okay.....but for me it'd look silly.) So, now I'm stuck with short hair forever!!!!

It's actually harder to manage now, and always seems to be in the wrong place. When it's long, it seems to weigh itself down. Now, 4 out of 5 days seem to be bad hair days.

Recently I've thought seriously about shaving it all off. (buzz not bald) I definitely think I'd look really funny....but at least it'd be the same everyday.
