Dream Interperetations

I had this dream the other night where I worked for jack the ripper. It was set back in the 1800's and I was at this huge ball(dance hall thing) And there were all these important people of the city there. It had a very creepy demented vibe to it. Almost identical to "from Hell" that awesome movie on jack the ripper. But he had given me this list and I was told to kill a bunch of people there. So I did. I just slit all these people's throats in all different kinds of sneaky ways. The dream was quite gaphic and nothing about it was surreal or dreamlike....it was all very real. The weird thing is that I didn't wake up scared or startled, as if I was fine with killing all of those people. And I'm not a malicious person. I never have gotten into fights...I'm not really stressing out about anything right now. I dont know why I would have such a graphic violent dream and not have it even phase me. Anyone think they know what it means? or what any dream means really?

I have no idea. Sometimes a dream is just a dream.

Curious tho...do you play some of the really violent video games where you kill people?

Maybe a bad pizza?

you must be crazy

jk

how long has it been since you saw that movie?
do you remember alot of your dreams?
if you do, are they usually interesting?

I have quit pot a few times over the last 16 years and usually I go thru a stage where I am very aware of my dreams as opposed to not remembering them at all - to the point it wakes me up, very annoying sometimes
but this time it has not happened, it has been two weeks since I've smoked anything, no dreams until last night and that was just a snippet, very weird snippet, but very short
getting to the point, I would often dream that I was smoking weed and wake up very distraught with a strong feeling of guilt and sadness because I was weak which I never felt when I actually started back in real life

of course, that doesn't answer your question at all, so I'll quit rambling
maybe I will think of something useful to say later

You're ok friend.
We all have a dark side &
understanding yourself better
thru dreaming is positive, acting
out what your dreaming, in this case
would be negative. Doesn't mean you're
psycho just cuz you're going around slicing throats
although who knows, you could be...lol. Really tho, it's
just another way to look inside yourself, what ever that may be.
Things that happen to you which are not what most consider real,
shouldn't have too much impact on your consciousness, for good or bad.
Now get back to sleep so you can go nuts!

I think maybe that killing all the people on the list and not feeling remorse or regret, even though it is an action you wouldn't normally do had a symbolic meaning. Sometimes we have responsibilities, or get involved with people that we might not be so thrilled about doing. but we know it's on the 'list' and it needs to get done whether we like it or not.No need to feel remorse because we had to do it and it would be wasted emotion. I think maybe you were using the astral realm to practice this type of skill.Or maybe I lost it sometime ago.

I alwalys dream in color....I saw the movie probably 3 weeks ago....and I think maybe the list does have a symbolic meaning becuase I have been doing that a lot..just being pretty busy and just doing things I dont really want to because they need to be done. Maybe.. I think dreams have meanings through symbolism personally.

I personally have noticed in the past that my development in this realm has strengthened me in the astral. Or it could be the stuff I do in the astral has been making me stronger (energy/spirit/awareness) here. All I know is that the dream world or astral or whatever you want to call it can definatly be used as a tool for developing in life. I have experienced it many times before. Its not permanent either. I have had powers literally stripped fom me in my dreams that took me so long to become aware of and use. Anytime your spirit becomes weak here you will weaken there. Sometimes when I am having really messed up dreams that are out of control I know it's because of something I ingested, or otherwise broke me down some way.

I've been having crazy dreams since I quit smoking reefer, like shit beyond what you see in sci-fi film. Anywho, a good book to read on dreams that I recommend is Sgmund Freuds' "Interpretation of Dreams". This dude is a revolutionary intellectual who chaged how human kind views its self.
Peace.

I share the exact same experience. Quite vivid and 'real' feeling...especially for the first week after quitting smoking for about a 6 week period. the strange part is that my dreams too were quite grusome in content, yet I remained more unphased than usual.

I also noticed similar effects. I think it is due to your spirit getting strong again. Even though some drugs can prove to be allies when used on occasion, doing them everyday, especially smoking really scatters your chi and breaks you down. When you start to clean up ,even on the first day the increase in spiritual energy is enough that you notice it dramatically. When I have quit things for long periods of time I noticed the dreams became less frequent but every once and a while I would have another wierd one where it seems I make some type of progress. when I start back up smoking they go away and I can usually feel the breakdown occur again.

dream poll

well, I've been thinking about dreams lately which isn't unusual as many of my poems deal with them, there was a recent thread about that weird jack-the-ripper dream, and I have an increased frequency of weird dreams which I can now recall thanks to a lack of THC in my brain. So I was wondering if what the sleep experts say is true about the majority of folks dreaming in b/w instead of color. I guess this isn't a scientific poll, but at least I can get a better idea by asking on a forum with polls than I could talking to my limited number of friends who would probably think it strange that I am trying to get a consensus on such a benign topic. So if you care to respond, please do. Thanks in advance.

They also say your not supposed to be able to read or understand numbers in your dreams but I know I have before. They say alot of shit about dreams but I don't think thay can make such inclusive claims as to say" all people dream this way, or that way" I think there is still alot of guesswork when it comes to studying dreams.

I got some facts from the dreammoods.com, if interested in more info on dreams you should check them out.

1. One third of our lives is spent sleeping.

2. In your lifetime, you would've spent about 6 years of it dreaming. That is more than 2,100 days spent in a different world.

3. Dreams have been here as long as mankind. Back in the Roman Era, striking and significant dreams were submitted to the Senate for analysis and interpretation.

4. Everybody dreams. EVERYBODY! Simply because you do not remember your dream does not mean that you did not dream.

5. Dreams are indispensable. A lack of dream activity can mean protein deficiency or a personality disorder.

6. We dream on average of one or two hours every night. And we often even have 4-7 dreams in one night.

7. Blind people do dream. Whether visual images will appear in their dream depends on whether they where blind at birth or became blind later in life. But vision is not the only sense that constitutes a dream. Sounds, tactility, and smell become hypersensitive for the blind and their dreams are based on these senses.

8. Five minutes after the end of the dream, half the content is forgotten. After ten minutes, 90% is lost.

9. The word dream stems from the Middle English word, dreme which means "joy" and "music".

10. Men tend to dream more about other men, while women dream equally about men and women.

11. Studies have shown that our brain waves are more active when we are dreaming than when we are awake.

12. Dreamers who are awakened right after REM sleep, are able to recall their dreams more vividly than those who slept through the night until morning.

13. Physiologically speaking, researchers found that during dreaming REM sleep, males experience erections and females experience increased vaginal blood flow - no matter what the content of the dream. In fact, "wet dreams" may not necessarily coincide with overtly sexual dream content.

14. People who are giving up smoking have longer and more intense dreams.

15. Toddlers do not dream about themselves. They do not appear in their own dreams until the age of 3 or 4.

16. If you are snoring, then you cannot be dreaming.

17. Nightmares are common in children, typically beginning at around age 3 and occurring up to age 7-8.

18. In a poll, 67% of Americans have experienced Deja Vu in their dreams, occurring more often in females than males.

thanks for the info, I will check out that sight. some of that I haven't heard before, but I have read up on it in the past, and some is common knowledge.
I know weed withdrawal causes more intense dreams, but cigarette? hmm.

I checked sometimes because of the dreams I have memory of, the interesting fact is that part of it is b/w and parts are color. Also, I only have memory of dreams that make me feel something emotionally in real life. There are probably 5-6 to date that I have memory of. The last one I had to wake myself up from because it was disturbing, when I did that, I jumped outta bed, and wham, hit the floor, my legs were suffering paralysis for about 3 minutes. Very strange. Also, during pregnancy I had way more dreams I could recall upon waking. Very strange dreams while pregnant. Ask your wives guys if they've experienced that too.
And a cool one, when I was a kid, dreamed I was mountain climbing with my class when I fell. Right at impact in the dream I immediately awoke to find myself on the floor which makes me think about time relation in dreams. They are an interesting study for sure. Cool poll.

wow, it seems lots of folks here been laying of the bud like me as of late, I'll never stop shrooming - but it was never a prob like mj all day everyday taking my life away - funny how it seems to be happening with my buddies around here as well
it's nice being free of the need for weed
one day, in the distant future, I may feel the ability to use it without succumbing to the jones
weed's tricky though, damn tricky for me and I don't understand how some use it recreationally while I am always seduced into thinking I need a constant buzz once I try it again after quitting

Wow, I thought I was all alone but now I know I'm not. My life has been taking a down turn as of late and I've been starting to think maybe its cuz I'm really stoned all the time. I used to like to get stoned and do shit, like that one dude in Half Baked, but now when I get stoned I don't do anything, I'm like "wow I'm sitting here and it feels really good, I think I'll continue to sit here..." then 3 hours later...

I'm making an effort to limit myself to weekends only, gonna see how that goes...

And one of my main reasons is that either I don't dream while sleeping stoned, or I don't remember my dreams at all. Worse, the dreams I do remember I feel like the characters in my dreams are trying to interact with me, trying to get through or show me something, and I just sort of sit there drooling on myself so stoned I'm retarded.

I used to keep a dream journal, it was so cool to go back and read about previous dreams. I've always wanted to be able to dream lucidly, but since I've become quite the stoner that desire has been eclipsed by being stoned. So has the desire to basically do anything other than get stoned.

Its pretty pitiful realy. Speaking of Half Baked, that scene where he goes to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting to try and talk about his marijuana addiction and gets yelled at by the America's Funniest Home Video guy (Bob something?), about how he has to give blow jobs to get his crack fix, though funny, is something I kinda identify with, not the blowjobs to get high, but how marijuana addiction is a walk in the park compared to most 'drugs'. I kicked cigarettes, wtf?

Damn I keep getting off subject, maybe we need a MJSmokersAnonymous thread....

I have always wondered about that most people dream in black and white thing. I remember green grass, and other colors, maybe its a black and white world with only so much color to go around. Or perhaps color is an indicator of how lucid your dream is or can be. I know that nightmares and other unreal situations can be used to trigger a lucid dream, maybe color is one of those attempts by the dream world to 'wake you up'.
I've always had trouble reading anything, letters are like ants... though I think there's been a few things that were legible.
I've died in dreams before as well, or perhaps woke up just before death, drowning is the one I remember most, just sinking further and further into the depths, and as my air ran out I woke up with the sense that I had died.

Keeping a dream journal is cool though, anyone else do so?

Oh yeah, anyone ever get high or eat mushrooms in a dream? It hasn't happened for me in a while, but it sure was cool!

I haven't but i might start to keep one.Last night i had a dream that someone gave me a bag of dope<haven't touched that shit in at least 10 years>,so anyway i keyed up a little and then left it opened on my desk.Next thing i know my brother asks me to do something for him and when i returned 2 of my cat's were sitting there and all that was left was the foil it was in.Needless to say i remembered panicking thinking my cats were going to od.Luckily i woke up before anything bad happened to them, was a fucked up dream to say the least!!

COLOR

I was going to first say its neither, and say that is more like thoughts running through your mind, just something you don't think about.

BUT no, mine was in color. I dreamt that my PF cakes had these MEAN-ass shrooms coming out em, and they were like wicked green/blue.

I think if they were in black in white, you would remember them being that distinctive "twilight zone" feeling, and you would remember them as such in the morning?

Everytime i drink, and i mean everytime, i have the most vivid dreams that seem so real that i usually wake up saying something or moving my arms. Lately most of my dreams have been about tripping ballz and being shot by family members. Or some really beautiful girl in a completely tripped out scenario.
What bothers me is sometimes i have dreams where im seeing like the letters 5mm in white and i wake up feeling sick and my arms hurt.

Thought i would share

I read somewhere that we don't dream in color but I know I do and it seems like other people do to. I have known people that only dream in black and white though. I had dream just the other morning before work and in the middle of it I realised I was dreaming and I started to ask my wife who for some reason appeared in my dream to wake me up because I was late and knew I was dreaming LOL. But I can't remember what the start of the dream was about . My favorite dreams are flying dreams. They always start the same for me. I'm running in a feild and as I'm running my stride keeps getting longer until it feels like I'm leaping instead uf running. The next thing I know I'm up in the air flying and the entire thing feels natural.

i never can seem to FLY but i commonly catch myself floating with my feet just a couple inches above the ground. I can sometimes leap really high, i go up fast and come down slow.. i even get that feeling in my stomach like when your going down on a rollercoaster. i love it.

i was put on probation about 6 months ago, had to quit smokin pot.. what really pisses me off is everytime i gotta go see my probation officer within a couple days ill have a dream that someone passes me a pipe..and ill hit it without thinking, then i get really really stoned , its weird how real it feels.. right about the time im ready to say "DAMN! im stoned!" i realize..WTF i gotta see my PO tommorow! then i start panicing and i wake up in a cold sweat still confused and worried.. then i realize it was all just a dream, and the fear of 7 years in the slammer fades away. I guess its kinda good, keeps me on my toes.

ive never dreamed in black and white though

I always dream in color.
I also can read and understand numbers, though text plays a part in very few of my dreams.

Many of my dreams involve death, either me avoiding it matrix style, or dealing it out in a variety of ways. I almost never feel bad about it in the dream itself, though i did cringe a bit after getting the proper zipper sound breaking a neck spec-ops style, that was ugly.

Occasionaly i can fly, it's wonderful.

More often i can breath under water, which is almost, but not quite, better then flying. It's kinda cool, because after a few of those dreams (some time apart), i got my SCUBA license, and am actually able to breath under water now, admitedly with a bit more gear. It's every bit as cool in real life as it is in a dream. If you live near water, like swimming, don't panic easily, and aren't claustrophobic, i highly recommend it.

I have crazy dreams when i start smoking weed, stop smoking weed, or if i'm stressed out at all....
Movies play a part in them from time to time.
Tonight i'll probably have some crazy fucked up dreams, i got stoned for the first time in a while, am seriously stressed out (ever read the lasik procedure? They cut flaps off the front of your eye, eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!), and watched the boondock saints.

They're weird, i don't have any gear or anything, but if i work hard enough i can seperate oxygen from the water by inhaling through a closed mouth really hard.

Strange business....

I can't remember whether i've had an actuall scuba dream or not...

That does remind me that i need to get my reg serviced and find a local dive buddy though, it's been too long.... I could do it solo, but i don't really have much experiance, it wouldn't be a good idea.

It's harder to fly higher, don't know why. Try going through a ceiling or a window.
If you can remember to do it, find a mirror and try to go through it. I've never been able to make that work.

This stuff works better if you are not exhausted when you go to sleep, then you can realize you are dreaming.
These days I don't get enough sleep, so I don't get much of the lucid dreams, though they are still really vivid.

When I smoked weed every day, like others said, I didn't get much in the way of dreams. I'd just wake up and have to smoke again to go back to sleep.

Bumping this thread, because it's cool! That poll-shuffling feature is pretty neat!

I always assume that all my dreams are in color, as I've never had a dream that was plainly in black and white. Usually colour is not a main feature of my dreams. When colour is the focal point of my dreams, the colours are usually very vivid, and the dream is very realistic, like a lucid dream.

Someone early on in this thread mentioned something about people aren't "supposed to be able to recognize numbers" in their dream or something to that effect. That's in no way true: I used to get a recurring nightmare when I was little that was nothing but recurring numbers, colours, and patterns. The subject of the dream was a war, and different colors represented different states. Rough, sandpapery colors were associated with the sounds of bombs, carnage, etc. Smooth, creamy colors were the lulls between blasts. The dream would always end with a different number repeating over and over, like through a loudspeaker. I used to dream like this mostly when I was sick (around the ages of 6-10 years old).

What sort of recurring dreams do you have?

Nice Bump!

all my dreams - always in color
and i have definately died in my dreams

re-occuring old houses,
hole in the floor right when i get in the door

second floor turns to hell, demons and all
they kill everyone, but never me.

i get tired of running at the end and just want to surrender
and if i do not give up, they never can catch me for infinity

well you asked

Have you ever experienced deja-vu after having a dream? I used to wake up remembering a dream, and also remembering that I had dreamt the same dream before. This would happen a lot: I wouldn't remember a dream until the second time I dreamt it!

Well, turns out that that may not actually be the case. An article on MSNBC(?) explained that researchers have identified a part of the brain called the dentate gyrus. This part, in the hippocampus, is responsible for "episodic" memory - kind of how a memory relates to others in regards to space/time. When the dentate gyrus goes haywire, you experience deja vu.

So basically, all these dreams that I thought I had remembered because I had dreamt them twice, I had really only dreamt once. My dentate gyrus just mis-fired and made me think I dreamt it twice. It just goes to show you how unreliable our memories really are. They really are not accurate representations of reality in any way, shape or form.

i'm a "sometimes"

clinical stuff i've read regarding dreams suggest that our dreams are our brains way to reconcile things that may go unfulfilled in life in some way. things you've wanted to do but couldn't, things that happened that you didn't want to, some aspect of life that one may struggle with or wish was different are all examples of circumstances that may be strong enough to trigger our subconcious to deal with it instead of our waking conscious. in that respect, i think beast is probly on to something where color may indicate conviction. aahhh, the subconscious... handlin' my light work. also available for hypnosis.

Nicotine patches are primo for lucid dreams! They should market that as an off-label use. (I guess if they marketed it, it wouldn't be very off-label, would it?) Nonetheless, a steady dose of nicotine while sleeping does wonders for dreams!

Even if we all share most of the basic mechanisms at the brain, somehow our MINDS are coded differently by our own experiences.

So then, the relevance or meaning of a dream can only be interpreted by the meaning we have given things, but we can't think of it as a linear meaning, since all the things in our brain are interconnected, something you dreamed can mean something different while you remember it awake... and most dreams are just random constructions.

Something you have to remember though is that every meaningful dream is just pointing you towards analizing reality, your life, not the dream itself.

When I stop, they start...

When I stop smoking the dreams become more bizarre and dramatic.

That alone is a good reason to quit occasionally, wicked journeys into the sub-terrestrially sublime are a good way to stress flush the system.

Full color here. I am also able to lucid dream most nights throughout the week. My ability to control my dreams increases for a few days after smoking DMT which intrigues me.

In the past I've noticed that bud makes me dream less. Lately I only smoke a small amt & it doesn't seem to affect my dreams.

As far as I can remember, I've always dreamt in vivid colors. The dream I remember from last waking even had a color printer in it. I seem to have a lot of lucid dreams. I've had several flying dreams and one where I could breath underwater which was totally cool. But the ones I've been having more recently are so lucid I've found myself explaining to characters in the dream that they aren't real and that they are a figment of my imagination. It's not like I have total control in the dream, just a lot more than usual and I feel completely awake and make several decisions as if I'm conscious.

Another thing that happens sometimes is I have meta-dreams. I'll wake up in my dream and think I'm awake but I'm actually still dreaming. The last one I had like this I remember figuring it out inside the dream. I was explaining to someone that I was asleep and was even describing the position my body was in. It's such a trip waking up & remembering a dream like that.

I don't ever remember what I dream but I do do alot of SCREAMING. My hubby keeps asking what the hell was I dreaming b/c I am screaming loudly or talking loudly but I do not ever remember. I used to beat myself up too along time ago. I would wake up with softball black eyes. It was INSANE but yet no memory. Weird.
