Anonymity: Would you post face pics/identifying details on Mycotopia?

An issue that we as mods worry about is the safety of our members. Because of the subject matter that we regularly discuss here, anonymity is one of the easiest routes of protection. However, i myself frequently edit out detailed location info or pictures of people's faces from their posts. Most of the time it's just a matter of someone not being aware of the issue. However, some people once informed don't seem to care. This is bewildering to me, but of course that is a person's prerogative.

I feel this is an important issue though, so lets open it up for discussion. How do you feel about your anonymity here? Would you post pictures of yourself on the boards?

Not long ago someone was convicted here of illegal possesion of weapons because of a photo on his mobile phone. The police apprehended him for something else, and then looked through his mobile phone for contacts and messages (standard procedure here). There was a photo of someone holding an AK-47 (just arms and gun, no face), which is 100% illegal for anyone to own here. Unfortunately the guy in the photo had the same arm tattoo as our unlucky friend. This is Scandinavia, not the U.S. though.

I would never post any identifying pictures of myself or anyone in my family. I guess I'm just paranoid but when you have children its always best to be safe. By the way I love the last option, "I'm invincible, look at the pctures I just took"

I do feel that very few people take the time to inform themselves of what they can be convicted for where they live. Hell, i don't even know what all i could be convicted for, which is one of the reasons i try to play it safe all the time.

im the same you really don’t know. if you get caught it could either be a slap on the wrist or an example being made of you to all who would follow in your foot steps. i would never post my face i was even worried about self incrimination when i first started posting at topia. not so worried now.

I dont do anything wrong anymore no growing of pot never made dmt & all that other shit!!!! I dont own any cactus YET!!! & for my mushroom grow op its too small for any cop or DEA to worry about I dont start trouble on my street so no one is aware of whats going on

also I am friends with the DEA they come into my girls job daily my ex job so we talk alot I've even had them ask me about a friend dealing drugs

I am in no way saying I am protected from anything I had my ex take pictures of me holding a large amount of freshly harvested buds & a plate of shrooms into a court when I tried to get full custody of our child when the judge asked I told him those were old pictures & that she was in the same pictures holding buds too she didnt bring those but I did

either way no ruling was made other then DNA no drug testing or anything
years have passed now so the judge & everyone knows what I do I have those pictures PLUS way more shit posted on my myspace page that is up to date with info

myspace being another place where people have said they been busted for there pictures I have yet to be raided for my picture & what I post about myself I also have visable tattoos in alot of pictures with drugs in them

I just feel like this place is watched way less then anyone here thinks it is this place passes off all good info I feel like they'd be watching other sites tryin to pass off bad info or tryin to do more illegal things like mail weed seeds in the mail with no stealth packaging also I feel like you got your self busted (if busted) then what you posted on your self they'd be watching more of what your doing as far as actions then what your posting about your self also this depends on where your from & where your living this wont apply to everyone

some places must get you for sales or trafficking to be able to slam you or its falls under being possession for personal use & I am telling you they arent trying to bust you for that unless your under the influence in public or you make a seen where the cops are call to your house or your trying to produce large amounts for sales

Well Tasty I for one would not post anything close to my image in real life until at least 10 yrs after legalization. Only one member here knows what I look like, and only about 3 even know what my safe addy is. I am a hermit in real life and I would be the same here as well. I do have the social blogs....and there I am a hermit as well, never posting anything extra....just my .02...and always will be.

I wondered about that too.. but here the defendant would probably have had to bear the burden of proof. Had he been to Cambodia on vacation he might have been able to argue he had been a gun tourist there, etc.

When people get charged with drug dealing it's also like this here.. that the burden of evidence is on the defendant. Say, if some substance is packed in bags. If LEO then finds a number of the same type of bags floating around in suspect's house etc, and there is some residue of drugs in them, then they can charge defendants with having sold the amount that might have been in those bags too... just too bad if the dealers had only repacked their stuff into some new bags, and never actually sold anything from those empty bags - they would never be able to convince the court about that. Very tough luck.

Or if you own something and can't prove you bought it with legal money, then that item can be confiscated. It's used with houses, cars, motor bikes etc.

How far LEO might try to go with photos posted online is, I guess, a continuing saga... who knows where it will end, as so much of life now happens in cyberspace.

I think in my jurisdiction shroom photos posted online could be used as evidence if there was anything to link them to the accused or his property. I.P. address matches wouldn't help either. It's not something I expect to see at all, but it could happen to someone the police really, really badly wanted to nail for something, and where any online evidence would not have been the original reason for a case, but most likely only something that was dug up to put the person away for even longer.

Nope, I don't like pictures of myself even being taken, much less posted anywhere. It annoys my mom, but I tell her that the fewer pictures there are of me in existence, the more valuable each becomes. She doesn't buy it either, but there we are.

The only reason I need for staying anonymous is that once we post something online, we can never ever truly delete it.

Your online fuckups are forever; don't doubt for a second that groups of assholes are caching everything they can for their future payday when you run for Senate. It's like the classic threat back in grade school when you got detention for shooting spitballs or something ("This is going to be on your permanent record!") except now it's really true.

But you said 'ex' job and 'we talk a lot' in the present tense so does that mean you like to hang out where you used to work and chat up the DEA? I'm sure they'd think nothing was odd about that.

where my girl works we have to be friendly I just quit recently but its one of those places were old people come to get coffee & chat its just a small dinner & DEA eats there everyday so with my girl waitressing she has to talk to everyone DEA included its not something we started but my girl works with her mom & her mom is big friends with the DEA well that runs off onto my girl when they want to chat & shes working or I working

like I said I'm not inviting them over to my house anytime soom my girl or her mom either we all smoke weed

have you ever heard of hiding something out in the obvious is less found then something that is hidden I had cops raid my house when I was 16 I was on probation for being in a stolen car that had keys in it I had a pipe laying under a mag on the table they searched the hole house & never found the pipe

they were looking in every hiding spot but never thought to look out in the open

cops look for people that are trying to hide & when your out in the open being open they seem to pass you by but then again this isnt true for everyone its like smoking a joint at a concert smoke it like a cig & not a joint

no one, to my knowledge, has ever been busted based on posts made here-
but some members have, over the years, managed to get themselves busted
and we discourage anyone with legal obligations from coming back here.
we simply do not trust people under duress of probation/parole-
and we most assuredly do not trust folks that lack good sense.

And if you think that your emails are in any way private, think again. Every email that touches the "American Internet" is scanned and cached by the NSA. That includes attachments, by the way.

To me avoiding posting my face on line, here especially, falls distinctly into the category of "better safe than sorry."

I dont own any cactus YET!!! & for my mushroom grow op its too small for any cop or DEA to worry about I dont start trouble on my street so no one is aware of whats going on also I am friends with the DEA they come into my girls job daily my ex job so we talk alot I've even had them ask me about a friend dealing drugs I am in no way saying I am protected from anything I had my ex take pictures of me holding a large amount of freshly harvested buds & a plate of shrooms into a court when I tried to get full custody of our child when the judge asked I told him those were old pictures & that she was in the same pictures holding buds too she didnt bring those but I did either way no ruling was made other then DNA no drug testing or anything years have passed now so the judge & everyone knows what I do I have those pictures PLUS way more shit posted on my myspace page that is up to date with info myspace being another place where people have said they been busted for there pictures I have yet to be raided for my picture & what I post about myself I also have visable tattoos in alot of pictures with drugs in them I just feel like this place is watched way less then anyone here thinks it is this place passes off all good info I feel like they'd be watching other sites tryin to pass off bad info or tryin to do more illegal things like mail weed seeds in the mail with no stealth packaging also I feel like you got your self busted (if busted) then what you posted on your self they'd be watching more of what your doing as far as actions then what your posting about your self also this depends on where your from & where your living this wont apply to everyone some places must get you for sales or trafficking to be able to slam you or its falls under being possession for personal use & I am telling you they arent trying to bust you for that unless your under the influence in public or you make a seen where the cops are call to your house or your trying to produce large amounts for sales

Every email that touches the "American Internet" is scanned and cached by the NSA. That includes attachments, by the way. To me avoiding posting my face on line, here especially, falls distinctly into the category of "better safe than sorry."
