poppy question

my friend has some nice sized poppies that have large golf ball to tennis ball sized bulbs on them. I can see the flower peeking out. The question is this: how long after the flower until harvest.......and.......is the bulb i see now going to be the seed pod? sorry actually 2 questions

yes, the bulb will fill with seed
after flower pedals fall off you can 'milk' the pods every few days
but if you want to cut off
i'd wait to let them grow

the bulb will open to flower right? then fill up with seed? im just having a hard time picturing the bulb remaining after it flowers...........thanks for the input hip.

some of the bulbs are drooping down as well, dunno what that means

so actually just a layer of the bulb opens to flower, then the remaining pod (underlying) is left to grow. Thanks Bluejay, the flower in the pic is the same color as my pals.

funny thing, the petals came and went the same day leaving me with puny little pods lol. i am going to dose them with nutes and see if i can get them larger.

I love those beuties but damn.... its takes so so so many to make it worthwhile. save it up and definately harvest multple times if u can. best of luck and N JOY! oh yeah, give it a few days maybe they'll swell up a bit. definately check out solivers link. good info there 4 sure.cut light and toke hard.

okay some cool things i learned about the opium poppy

they are suppose to flower as the days get longer, and I had several flower on the solstice. it is awesome to see nature work, and next year i will know damn near to the day when i will be able to harvest.

the flowers lasted only one day, then the petals fell away on all of them. this is contrary to everything I have read/heard. the flowers were suppose to last a few days at least?

I ground up 7 pods 3 were actually the size of silver dollars and the rest were kind of runty. Quarter sized to dime sized. Added some of my surplus phosphoric acid to some bottled water that i brought to a rolling boil, then removed from heat. I took the ground poppy pods and filled an empty teabag and soaked/steeped for 25 minutes.....thats pretty much it.
poppy tea mmmmmmm. i have heard how bad this stuff tastes......to me it tasted like orange tea.....i added too much sugar, but besides that it was really good. i was expecting a bitter opiate taste.

the pain releif/euphoria lasted a long time, actually im still feeling it today after drinking it yesterday.....so better than a pill or two for sure.

These are just a few of my findings with my new project, and I thought sharing was in order.

oh yeah one last thing that i tried as hip suggested, grapefruit juice....as I have no experience without it to compare too yet, i can at least say it didnt hurt

Wow tennis ball size do you know what strain they are. I have seen some Persian Whites lately that where only as big as my little finger nail... probably do to over crowding. I'm wondering if they would be worth scoring once they are mature.

took the same teabag full of tea and made some more the next day. it was actually stronger than the first batch. i am kind of glad it worked out the way it did. if i would have extracted the total alkaloids the first time i would have been unconcious.

the tennis ball sized blooms did not end up tennis ball sized after they bloomed, but were quite large still. i used the gig strain. i had very few small pods in the end, as the pods grew very well after blooming. i will try some different strains but the giants are damn good.

Exactly why...

There were more than one type planted and as they started growing there was no way to differentiate them at the thinning stage. Instead of thinning any way and chance not seeing a certian variety at all they weren't thinned. As the buds started rising the differences got more apparent and a very small amount of thinning was then done but definitely not enough. So far only one variety has started opening however buds from other varieties look like they will start to open soon. There where a few non crowded gigantiums like rocket saw coming along it will be cool if they turn out as big as those.

By the way poopies.org's forum and archive are not working for me.... is anyone else haveing the same problem?

The temp has been over a hundred for seval days in a row more than once since they were planted. I'm not sure what effect that will have however I noticed the flowers only lasted for two days.

mine were pretty much all done a few weeks ago
try planting them earlier next year.
