Poppy ID Required!

Could these be opium poppies? I was driving down a country road in Oregon and found a bunch of these growing wild at roadside. Please see pics … er sorry about the mutant finger. My hand was shown for size comparison.

Cheers!

Hard to tell from the pics, but the color is right...

Best test is the stem IME - if the stem is hairy, you have an Oriental
poppy (useless and sadly more common), but if it's more or less smooth,
you're on the road to high times

Nice find either way - poppies are beautiful.

Lovely pictures although I can't help ya on the ID.

I saw some pictures of the poppy patches in Afghanistan and they were as beautiful as the tulip fields in Amsterdam it seems.

Damn ... I believe the stems were fuzzy, which looked prickly, which was the main reason I didn't bring home a sample. I thought I would return with some shears. Oh well, they are beautiful indeed!

good eye there,
i agree,
stems do look a bit 'hairy' in that pic above.
