I had just messaged you about my inability to enter chat before finding this thread. So much here for a newbie like myself to find and consider. Your community and wealth of information is well worth the investment of time, money and energy to support. It's hard for me to even imagine people coming here for negative /destructive ends but I'm sure it happens if you say so. I'll donate shortly. Thanks for all the effort, it shows.

I am not sure if I agree with the methods employed to block access to the chat, but that is only because I never experienced the trolling. If everyone else says that it's been bad then I'm sure it is for the best. I am also aware that this is a privately owned site, so I respect the freedom of the owner do to what ever he goddamn pleases as long as it is within the realm of legality ( I mean that sincerely )



After thinking the matter through thoroughly I have decided to donate towards Mycotopia. I figure I have dropped more on pointless video game that never taught me anything so why not help a cause that has provided me with much knowledge and great conversation.

i can when i am logged out. so it is there.
i can't imagine it won't work for you.

Again, Im relatively new to the mycotopia forums, but I just wanted to say that chat was pretty cool.

Dont know if this helps, but I know a large conspiracy board (A.T.S.) has a chat and they keep logs so at any time they can go through and see what was said in chat.

And I suppose ISP banning wouldnt really do it either from the sounds of it? - so its to bad this happened.

Suppose I was fortunate in what time I had in chat to see good conversation flowing and no negativity. (Well an off beat comment here or there, but nothing too out there I would say.)

Good meeting a lot of you guys through the chat...suppose I will see you here in the boards. Still waiting for those elusive Hungarians to show up.

Come on folks... Pony up the 25 bux and receive the privileges that that membership provides.... 1 good grow and that covers the costs of membership in spades. The fast and friendly knowledge that chat provides is worth the 4-5 gallons of gas IMO... Hell, the access to Danky's knowledge alone is worth that much.

i dunno hip, just a suggestion,
'vip' makes members feel somewhat un-special to see up top.
we are all very important people here!
maybe 'limited access chat'.
one of those other sites (s-talk)
had a 'vip' chat.
it is still named that probably,
but it was suggested to configure the board index to hide it from
the folks who could not access the forum.
at the same time it was also suggested to hide the 'vip' lounge forum
from members who are not very important from seeing
a forum that they are not considered important enough to access.
kinda like the staff here must have their own forum to discuss things,
but only the staff can see it..
just my thoughts
and i only had time to read the first page of this topic,
so maybe something else is going on that i missed

and you're not the only one with the issue. Its good that peeps let us know of issues with the site. If it wasn't for those folks some kinks here and there may go unnoticed

Its good you know how to use the features. Many folks never knew about the list because they would log in and then log right back out just to see who is in there...lol while others I know love that list cause they only come in chat while their friends are active in chat.

Chat was not made VIP to earn the board money. The board is able to support itself despite this small increase in donations.

Before you try and bash us for the decisions we've made regarding our site please make sure to read the posts in reference to the problem.

Chat was becoming very unmanageable and people were using it as a dumping ground to trash talk others, vendors, sponsors, etc. We cannot always be there to moderate and enforce board policy.

Making it a "paid" feature will make it less likely that others will continue to use it in such a manner.

Also, please keep in mind that EVERY feature of this site, including the site itself, exists because many people have worked very hard to make it that way. We do have the right to change, modify, or otherwise remove any feature we choose, for any reason we choose, and at any time.

The admins and moderators do everything they can to make topia a friendly and fun-loving atmosphere - changes need to be made at times to prove a point or to enforce board policy - both of which serve to keep this a positive community.

pretty typical of the type of complainer i've seen so far-
a guy who barely posts [ i looked up his profile - 21 posts in a year ]
and almost all of his posts are in just one thread.
very little participation here,
no support nor gratitude for what he was given freely.
but he thinks he has a right to bitch and demand free access.

nearly all of those are a habitual crowd of regulars.

A little harsh perhaps, but hopefully the above quoted post will help others understand why we made the decision we did. Not that we have to explain our actions per se, but rather in response to all the feedback we've been getting maybe it'll soften the blow.

VIP access is a fairly low-cost subscription, but banking on the fact that most will not abuse a service they've paid money to utilize.

I must say, i don't post alot, subconseously paranoid, (also a bad speller, but who cares not me), first time to chat, but i enjoy the reading and info, but anyway its been good chatting with ya'll.(ha ha) however i kind of see what you are up against, there is such a mix, some people are for real and some are pure BS. There are those that do, and those that talk about doing, sometimes they are not the same. I have enjoyed the experimental side for some time, but ever since i bought that kit when i was 16, and it said i had to have a pressure cooker so i gave it away i thought it was just too damn complicated. Now i'm neering 40 and its like damn, it seems so simple, I just can't seem to get enough. I have always been a beleiver that MJ and QB's could save the people from themselves.
