i regret the necessity
but i feel a message must be clearly sent
that i will not permit the chat to
be a place of negativity.
i will re-open chat
on a probationary basis
with new criteria to gain access.

why not have mods and vip have access. if a vip messes up then pull their vip for good it their loss, and ur gain of $25. personally i dont use chat much but when i do is in good reason.

Sometimes I dont get as much help in post.

I hope things get resolved. I would donate. But, its not a donation if you gain something in return.. thats like giving to charity and getting a tax break. Thats just how I feel about it.

I dont want to pay for chat because there are so many irc channels out there. I just liked this one. Oh well, all good things end

i wouldn't say it isn't worth it, but there are so many irc chats around that will stay free as long as you pay your isp for internet.

I am donating(with a gift card), and I always was planning on it... i just recently got a job so now i'll soon be able to.

Im not sure why this decision was made, and I'm neutral. Negativity should be restricted and enforced to the fullest. We have too much of this in the 'real world' as it is.

If you criticize someone, it better be constructively... maybe question would be better then criticize.

I definitely dont mind helping the cause... Not to mention chat has got to use up quite a bit of bandwidth.

Aww that sucks badgers nadgers and I am far too poor to give money now.

I don't want to bite the hand that feeds but I think this is a bad Idea. I fully understand if its for a financial reason but other wise maybe a few more vips members made into chat mods to better police the chat. I have never found it to be a negative place apart from the odd nutter about once every few weeks. On the whole I have found it a very positive place. It provides me with quick answers to my questions and in turn allows me to help other people with all those small questions like; "how many cc per hole?" "what is field capacity?". I think without chat newbs who cant yet use the site properly and look the answers to these questions up for them selves will lose out.

the problem is two-fold-
much of the negativity is whispered in chat so no witness, no record.
we have a small but determined group of 'trolls' here who refuse to abide by board policy, talking shit on me, topia, the mods, spewing racist, homophobic garbage etc.
then if we ban them they're back in a day under a new name causing mischief again.
the majority of all bullshit drama here stems out of the chatroom.
i intend to put a stop to this abuse of privilege .
i figure no one will throw away $25 repeatedly just to stir shit for a few minutes .
these clowns with 2 dozen nyms will all be locked out
and only those who care enough to actually support the site
will now have the privilege of using our chat.
i may, on rare occasion, award honorary VIP status to certain members who show their worth in a non-financial manner.

we tried that in our Marketplace forum ,
trying to cut down on hit-and-run scammers.
what we got was
a lot more content-free posts,
like 'welcome' for newbs
or 'i like' on grow threads,
etc.
too easy to churn out a bunch of trivial posts
and little to lose if they get booted.

requiring some kind of more substantial donation
helps us see who is serious and who's playing games.

so far this morning i've added 3 new VIPs
and made arrangements for another once he comes thru.
there are plenty here who see the value and want to help.
i'm open to a variety of ways to VIP status,
giving away some in contests or for outstanding posts,
print donations- many ways to demonstrate sincerity.

and the trolls who just want to bitch and tear us down
can suck it then hit the highway.

It was not meant to imply that mods were doing a poor job. It was more like, more police on the streets make people behave better style of comment. Sorry if you thought I was slagging off your work as a mod.
I agree less mods will now be needed in chat but that is mainly because there will be less people in chat.
Over all what has to be done to safe guard people against the trolls has to be done, shame it has to be done at the expense of the newbs losing out on a helpful service.
