    Please pardon my language but....

    FUCK YEAH!

I love watchin' that big ol' white bird glide in. And launch. I freakin' LOVE watching launches!

I cried like a little kid when we lost Challenger and Columbia.

An old family friend my dad served with as a city police officer went on to work as security for Cape Canaveral when I was a boy. We got invited down and got a nice behind the scenes tour and access to some restricted shuttle sites. That was so long ago it almost seems surreal to me. I saw the first ever shuttle launch at the Cape from a great inside te fence view! It left me kinda stunned about all the accomplishments that added up to that moment. It also left me kinda deaf too for about 3 hours but I just saw history made so I didn't mind. I'm waiting for the next gen of spacecraft and propulsion are going to do for us next. The X-Prize has been won. What's next eh? Any new propulsion prototypes from Yoyodyne Propulsion you can tell us about BB?

Sorry dude, the overthruster as to stay under wraps for now.

Too many Red Lectroids around this place...

I'd run over a nun to see a launch from inside the NASA perimeter. I was lucky enough to catch one from the "grandstands" a few years back. The rumble as that thing rose into the sky on a plume of fire and smoke is truly one of the most awe inspiring things I have ever witnessed.

Makes me get a lump in the throat just thinking about it.

America: maybe not the best, but still head and shoulders above the rest!

    Nice thread, anticheffy!

Better yet, there is a guy working on inflatable space stations, using old russian ICBM rockets.

That was the best news i'd heard in a loooong time, because it means that capitalism is finally making it to space, and THAT means that cash money will finally be well applied.
NASA has done a ton of good things, and are still doing the best they can, but without another agency challanging them, and forcing them to really push, they have slowed down. It doesn't help that their budgets have been murdered.
If it were up to me, i'd snag 5% of the military spending and dump it into NASA.

So many things we take for granted came from space and related research. Microwave ovens for instance, and a ton of different snazzy plastics.

Orbiting solar panels beaming energy down could go a long way towards replacing aging oil and coal power plants.

If we get far enough, asteroid mining and construction in space would be huge, shipping stuff down to earth is a hell of a lot cheaper then shipping it up, thats for sure. With construction in space that doesn't require a lot of bits shipped up, a much larger space station(or three) could be made, and from there things could move outwards to a base on the moon.

The moon could be strip mined without anybody really caring, as the lunar landscape isn't terribly spoilable :P

Anyway, i'm very happy we're still working on getting out there, the good far outweighs the bad imo.

Is it going to take that long even? We're in a war right now, there are rockets blowing up Beiruit every day...war will never stop. WW3 has been raging for the last couple years, just not on a large scale.....sorry for the bad talk...

Hey, guys, this is Anticheffy's thread and I think he wanted it to be about something besides war and violence and death.

Lots of other threads around here for that kind of stuff...

We used to bang hard in this forum. Wasn't all about negativity, was intellectually brutal discussion. I miss it to be honest. Will probably never return to the level it was at but I think a lot more people are not afraid to post here.
Wascally wabbits no longer play in this garden...Maybe the change is for the better, fewer catch feelings over shit now.
A shitpile of time, effort, thought, & research went into the old posts and was appreciated. It also got too serious & caused rifts. Fuckin' politics, all shit anyway.

I think we did put more money into Nasa than the las administration. I don't know this for a fact, just a guess.

I have a lot of pride in my country, cause its my home.
No different than the reason I love my mother.

I don't think your pride in your country should be based on how much cooler our toys our. There are a lot of poor hard-working, good-valued, countries, with people that love there homeland very much. Not because the amount of launches and technological advancments, but the fact that it is their roots and where they can call home. In my mind thats true pride.

    good intentions with this thread
