    general elections(states)

for those who go up for election, for various states(not quite sure what happens down there), could not someone just say, "if you vote for me i will fight for legalising recreational mj use for those over the age of 21 not suffering from mental health problems" i sure as hell would vote for them lol, just because of the mj part, i wouldn't really care about the rest of it and i dont think others would be either .

its only a matter of time before people jump on the bandwagon and winning, basically free votes from those who only care about them because they support mj decrimalization .

one can only wish and hope

There are many politicians that say they will fight for MJ legalization if they get elected. Not many of them get elected sadly. Its hard to try and run on such a radical platform unless your a conservative and then the guy would be betraying his own political base. I just don't see it happening. It'll happen on a state level as each state starts to encounter problems with full jails and busted budgets.

Somehow I cannot see Rick Santorum, R-Pa, backing that.
    Peace

As I am Me said...there have been plenty of guys who say that....only your chances of getting elected are very slim. Politics is still politics no matter what you are going for.....politicians are going to side with the majority of people that will get them re-elected....no matter what their personal views on it are.

If you really want to see how it works....rent the movie The Distinguished Gentleman with Eddie Murphy. It's a comedy, but I think they hit the nail on the head with how politicians work.

Eddie: Am I for or against this?

Politician: well...if you are for it, you get $50,000 from this lobbying group....if you are against it, you get $70,000 from the opposing lobbying group.

Eddie: I think I'm against it.

Politician: yeah, I think you are against it. (chuckles)

    funny movie

    see
    the thing is
    for most adults
    smoking pot is not
the most important thing in life.

a one-issue pro-pot candidate has little to offer
the majority who do not indulge.

What would be more affective is a candidate that kept quiet on that issue and tried to get elected otherwise. Then he (or she) could go the legalization route because they never said they wouldn't.

But then again. We already have enough crooked politicians. I don't think we need more people not being upfront.
