Angry Sneaky Cell Phones and Voided Warranties

Hi all.

Don't know how well known this is, or even what companies employ it. But I have a Verizon plan and RAZR. (RAZRs are junk IMO, BTW)

Anyway, it was brought to my attention that there are white dots in side the battery area. I found two in my RAZR, one under the battery and one behind the battery.

These dots will turn red if in contact with moisture or even humidity. I heard that taking them into the bathroom with you when you take a shower will turn them red.

If any dot is 50% or more red, then your warranty is voided. There may be some manufacturer warranty left, but at least Verizon's part of the deal is moot.

I have checked older Verizon phones and they don't have them. I have checked Altel motorola phones... and they don't have them. So while I am unsure, i think it is a Verizon issue. Does anyone have a non-moto phone with Verizon that could verify this?

Verizon tries to screw us every chance they get (don't you just love buying a media phone and a plan and then having to PAY EXTRA TO PUT MEDIA ON OR GET IT OFF?!?!?!?!?!) My phone is only a few months old and has never gotten wet, yet one dot is about 20% red. Arrgh. I think putting tape over the dots might help.

Bastids.

Hi Bobcat,

Yes, I too have a Verizon phone (not the Razr)
and my dots are VERY red but the phone
has never been wet other than like you said
bathroom counter while in the shower or maybe
on my belt from the door to the truck while raining.

I don't have any dots in my verizon phone but it is kinda old. It sounds to me like this is a bunch of bull. An easy way for them to cheat their consumers. Anybody living in high humidity is screwed. HOW RUDE

My contract is w T mobile & my cell was less than 90 days old when it developed a short in it & would get hot as hades. It was sucking the charge out of the battery in about 4 hours & was too hot to hold up to your ear. They only allow you to deal w customer service over the phone anymore, & I ended up w a dolt. After playing 20 questions, one of the last questions was "Does the cell work while plugged into the charger?" Whelp hell yeah it does! She says, why not just use it that way! Hmmm I wonder why I bought it to use as a CELL phone bonehead!" She then tells me she's gonna switch me to someone else but pulls the old hang up routine. I took the frigging phone to the store & asked for the manager. I told him unless I walked out w a working phone he could stuff his contract & discuss any penalty w my lawyer. I ended up with a new phone of course.

I have a new samsung phone with verizon. I check my batter, and there are these little white sticker like things, one on the battery and one on the phone behind it. They have little blue X's on it. They aren't circles though. Maybe it's the same thing as yours.

I especially hate how you can spend $$$ on media and programs and if it's been longer than 90 days and for some reason you have to get a new phone, you've got to buy it all over again..THAT is a load of BS. I've had it happen twice with Verizon with the model phone I had. The first time, they gave me credit for all the programs, the 2nd time they said if it had been more than 90 days that they would not give credit.

As for moisture sensors in phones, I think that's pretty standard for all cell phone companies. Oh, and just cause you can't see where they are doesn't necessarily mean they're don't have them. I think some phones actually have them inside the phone itself.

i dont think this is limited to just cell phones, i'd be carefull with any hand held gaming system or just about any other consumer electronic device designed to be carried on your person.
