| NSAT&T Buddy of mine just sent me this link... kinda found it amusing... Well... this pretty much confirms it... the NSA is using AT&T to spy on us. The government has told them they're not allowed to confirm or deny it... so... duh. AT&T Statement on NSA Issue San Antonio, Texas, June 27, 2006 At AT&T, we vigorously protect our customers' privacy and only share information as specifically authorized by the law. The news media have carried reports alleging that AT&T is participating in an unlawful NSA terrorist surveillance program. Unfortunately, the law does not permit AT&T to respond to those allegations. The U.S. Department of Justice has stated that AT&T may neither confirm nor deny AT&T's participation in the alleged NSA program because doing so would cause "exceptionally grave harm to national security" and would violate both civil and criminal statutes. Under these circumstances, AT&T is not able to respond to such allegations. What we can say is AT&T is fully committed to protecting our customers' privacy and would not provide customer information to any government agency except as specifically authorized under the law. AT&T- News Room PS. News article on the FBI using your cell phone to listen in on you: YouTube - FBI Cell Phone Monitoring In Mainstream Media It points out that they can listen in to what's going on around your cell phone even if your phone is powered off... the only way to stop them is if you remove the battery... and btw, the new iPhone with AT&T, as I hear, makes the NSA and FBI very happy in that you can't remove the battery.

| See http://forums.mycotopia.net/resist-r...at-scared.html (New privacy threat. BE SCARED.), we were discussing the implications of this and ways you might be able to detect it.

| Maybe this is naive--please let me know if it is--but the NSA's eagerness to jump on this issue and keep everyone's mouth shut is enough to convince me of what the truth probably is. I've been wanting to switch phone companies anyway. |

| Im sure this is all part of the s 'patriot' act. Which I dont have much of a problem with them using to catch terrorists. I do, however, have a problem with them using the patriot act in enforcement of any other law or for any other reason than terror related. So in application I dont like the act because they are using it to catch drug dealers and other non violent 'crimes' |

There is no escape. Ma Bell is almost finished reincarnating, so don't entertain any high hopes for quality customer service, unless you are the NSA. Even if there is another telco provider available, they lease the lines from AT&T, so no matter who you place a call through, it goes through AT&T's back rooms where the surveillance takes place (proven by documents released by Wired News a while back). My ultra-secure line I use to call my neighbor is just two cans and some string. Even then, I find other pieces of string tied to it sometimes that lead to strange vans with tinted windows... | |

| Marge: That pizza delivery truck has been parked across the street for two weeks. [looking at a pizza delivery truck conspicuously equipped with a satellite dish] [inside the truck, loaded with electronic snooping equipment] Marge's voice: How long does it take to deliver a pizza? Man 1: Looks like our cover's blown. Man 2: Let's roll. [the truck speeds off] [back in the bedroom] Homer: See? It was all your imagination. [another truck pulls into the spot that was vacated. The sign painted on the side? Flowers By Irene] ![]()
