| NASA To Blast Beatles Into Space NASA to beam Beatles tune into space 'Send my love to the aliens,' says McCartney Last Updated: Friday, February 1, 2008 | 11:12 AM ET CBC News U.S. space agency NASA plans to send a Beatles hit across the universe on Monday, saying it is the first song ever to be beamed directly into deep space. The song chosen is, appropriately, Across the Universe, and it will be sent out 40 years to the day after it was recorded. The track will be transmitted through the Deep Space Network, an international array of antennas that supports space exploration missions, at 7 p.m. ET on Feb. 4. The network will direct the song toward Polaris, the North Star, 431 light years away. The event marks the 50th anniversary of NASA and the 45th anniversary of the Deep Space Network. Former Beatle Paul McCartney sent a message of congratulations to the space agency, adding "Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul." John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono also hailed the achievement. "I see that this is the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the universe," she said. It's not the first time NASA has beamed up a Beatles tune. In 2005 McCartney performed the song Good Day Sunshine during a concert that was transmitted to the International Space Station. Here Comes the Sun, Ticket to Ride and A Hard Day's Night have also been played to wake astronaut crews in orbit. The public around the world has been invited to participate in the event by simultaneously playing the song at the same time it is transmitted by NASA.

| Smartest thing Nasa Has done in awhile, Send the best music ever created. Hopefully any alien race will dig it just as we did when it came out in the 60's. ![]()

| well hasnt this song been indirectly spread (radio/satellite) since the 60's. so there may be a chance its already headed there? so in 460 years they will hear it.

| not really, our older signals are so weak and un-focused that after just a few lightyears any coherency is lost and it becomes just static noise.

| well maybe then we should send a concentrated beamed signal to every corner of the universe saying, "Earth needs new energy, will pay for costs." you know those aliens may have the answer to the end of oil. fusion or something better.

| they might also come to stomp on us. might be wiser to be quiet until we know to whom we are calling . besides radio is too slow. we'll run out of oil in less than 50 years, our signal won't get far in that much time. then ET would have to signal or travel back here, further reducing our time. so unless ET is in our local neighborhood, say about a spherical volume of 25 lightyears radius from Sol, they would be too late.

| I remember a good old song from Donovan called Intergalactic Laxative. I first heard it on Dr. Demento's radio show. Its slightly off topic but funny and is about space. I'll include a link so you can hear a snippet of it. If you want to check out the whole song its pretty easy to find as mp3. Sample of this song here http://www.themadmusicarchive.com/sa...c_Laxative.mp3 Released: 1973 (Stavro288) Author(s): Donovan Leitch (Stavro288) The Intergalactic Laxative By: Donovan Facts: # When Dr. Demento plays this, the *bad words* are usually replaced by sound effects. (Tim P. Ryan) # I heard that the late Steve Goodman would play this in his performances near the time this was originally issued. (Tim P. Ryan) Song Lyrics: Quote:

| I've never uploaded an mp3 to the topia so I thought i'd convert that Donovan song to an acceptable size and let you check it out. If its not appropriate go ahead and zap it. Enjoy ![]()
