Thumbs down Photo-enforcement

Anyone enraged by the photo-enforcement on the highways of Arizona? Everytime I see one I wish I had a RPG and could let one loose into those abominations.
In the early 1970's the Weather Underground took out places that suported the war. I tried to join but by 1970 they were so far underground I couldn't connect. That spirit of resistance is still in me and I am very tempted to make an encandescent statement on one of those photo-enfocement vehicles. Very risky endeavor and am not sure it's worth the risk. Too bad there wasn't some other way to neutralize those Big Brother reminders.

Well, you could use an EMP . Or paintball the lense...

Are they suspended up high? cut em down!

If they are road side could plant some wildlife.

Just a few options that don't involve blowing something up

It's a growing hobby. Leave the RPG at home though.

I agree that these are not only annoying, seemingly unconstitutional and an invasion of privacy. However, though you may find much pleasure and send a clear message of your dismay by destroying a camera or two, just be reminded that these are very expensive. You know that they will simply replace the camera, and the installation and hardware fees will be paid by the taxpayer, which may be you!

Well, it's not quite that simple. Hundreds are being destroyed all over the world and though many are being replaced, not all are and more importantly it's causing the insurance rates on them to rise. That eats profits and makes them less enticing as a business. It may be incremental, but the effect is real and measurable.

That said, the surest way to rid a locality of all of them is a referendum. Cameras (both red light and speed) are typically defeated by at least 80% of the vote whenever the issue has appeared on a ballot. That's why councils don't like referendums.

So, try the voting thing first. If that fails (and it won't), then perhaps explore the nice selection of camera repair tools found at your local hardware store.

and if you do take an underground effort to "free" our roadways of the speed taxation without representation, don't forget the Cop Buster creedo. Everyone that knows increases your chances of getting caught by 10%

Back when I used to live in Alberta, they brought in radar cameras and would put them in cars or trucks looking like breakdowns on the side of the highway.

The licence plates are red on white background. I made up and passed around flyers encouraging everybody to get red markers and change 1s to 4s and that sort of thing.

Photo radar is nothing but a revenue stream.

Stonehenge LEVEL +50 - WELL-LIKED
There are special license plate covers that will make it impossible to read clearly from the side which is where the cameras will be placed. A cop right behind you can still read it. Those covers are illegal in some states so be careful and altering the numbers is illegal everywhere. Of course if some mud happened to splatter on the plate making it hard to read, that would not be your fault.

If you are going to paint ball them, sneak up and shoot at an angle where they can't see you. A splash of paint puts them out of order same as a bomb and less charges if you are caught.

I saw them test those "covers" on mythbusters and they said none of the popular ones worked. Are you sure it isn't a scam?

Also, if you are worried about getting a ticket from one of these things, just memorize their locations and make sure to go the speed limit through those areas. I am sure this would be a simple task to map the locations of them in your local area since you should frequent the streets fairly often anyway.

Also, as opposed to being on the offensive and just shooting the damn things with RPG's (lmao) or simply paintballs, why not just take the defensive side? It is very easy to rig a simple hydraulic setup that will hide your license plate or flip it around to a bogus one at the flip of a button... I mean, I would rather do this than destroy public property and risk criminal charges.

why not just drive at the speed limit
and avoid endangering others ?
no ticket to fear if you aren't speeding
and if you are speeding
you deserve the ticket at a bare minimum.

where I live if you drive the speed limit you might as well be a traffic cone, all the traffic in my area runs at least 10-20 mph over the posted speed limit on the highways. If you do the speed limit people flash their high beams at you and flip you off as they pass. You stand out like a sore thumb.

Nobody's advocating that, because these cameras are all private property, and one of the major issues with cameras is the corruption, bribery, and typical political fuckery that created the contracts which primarily benefit private and sometimes foreign companies. IMO, that creates a powerful vested interest in things like artificially low speed limits, fake construction zones, shortened yellow lights, and other scams that make the roads LESS safe (and all of those examples of scamming the public have already been documented in cases against these companies). Damaging a camera is still criminal vandalism according to the courts, but it's not vandalism of public property.

These things need to go, one way or another. I think folks should try the referendum thing first though since victory is a slam-dunk, just like has happened with every single camera referendum that's come up for a vote so far. Most of the lobbying efforts of these parasitic companies these days are concerned with preventing anti-camera initiatives from making it onto the ballot, which says a lot.

Because depending on the context, driving at the speed limit may be what endangers others. Statistically, the safest speed to drive on a controlled-access highway is the 85th percentile of the general flow; the super-speeders and the slowpokes are the most dangerous, and if the slowpokes are going the limit (say, 65 mph) when the 85th percentile averages 75 mph, then the "slow" cars adhering to the speed limit are the real threat to safety (at least democratically-speaking).

Also, what's pissing people off even more than speed cameras are red-light cameras, and those have now been clearly proven to make things worse in most cases. And I got lots of info and links about this subject, but it's all easily accessible to anyone who really cares about this issue so I'll spare everyone all the cutting and pasting.

it's a fact that higher speeds give more fatalities.
the fact that a majority speeds
is just as strong an argument
for even more cameras and enforcement.

and we do not advocate the destruction of private property either-
that kind of talk draws un-wanted heat from leo .
