it'd be nice if i could really believe it but i can't. i believe in destiny, and some lifes are just supposed to suck. that's part of the drama of life, like shakespeare said we are all bit players who strut in the spotlight for a few brief moments. some play the role of hero, or jester, some are kings and some are wretches. the divine comedy is also a tragedy, in the traditional sense of the word. some people, quite simply, are doomed, screwed from the git go. maybe they're born with a heart defect or some other minor flaw that will forever shape their destiny, or maybe they'll be struck by lightning or hit by a car, could be almost anything. these people are the current cast of 'bit players', who have only a minor role others are 'stars', headliners destined to act out their roles in the spotlight, like brittany spears or ted kennedy, etc. this things just happen, people really have very little control over their destiny. and even being spiritual is of little help i guess my take on it is that life is too precious to spend it building a 'house' that will soon be vacant, condemned, torn down, no matter how nice it was. seems all 'religions' want to talk about discipline, sacrifice, control. you gotta give up meat or sex, etc. i just don't buy into that whole scheme. i think god is a hedonist, why else did i get billions of nerve endings to tickle? i'd rather be drunk playing beach volley ball with a bunch of young bikini-clad babes than chanting om mani padme hum in some temple. i think god would agree. "i'd rather be drunk playing beach volley ball with a bunch of young bikini-clad babes" When was the last time that happened to ya hip?? I used to have the same outlook. We are all gonna die anyway so fuckit. But I don't think that way anymore. And you are right some lifes are gonna suck worse than others. But I have noticed that people with handicaps are often happier people than those with nothing to complain about yet that's all they do. I've never given up sex or food for a religion. And life is about controlling your thoughts and emotions. Without control we are always gonna be bouncing from one emotion to the next because thats the way they hit us. Just like the way you try to keep order here. Apply your logic of fuckit and what do you get other than the Nook?? You may see the common man as a bit player but I know for a fact that any bit player or pawn can win the game. All it takes to be a star is to be comfortable with your life and make it fun and enjoyable for yourself and friends. |

"but even self-control is a talent that not all are blessed with in abundance." Indeed that is why it would be a good thing for people to learn how to cultivate it in themselves. I am one of those scatter brained spur of the moment folks that has a really hard time with self control. But I'm working on it for a couple months now and I can see an improvement in myself. You have to be the change you want to see in the world, I believe that was Ghandi. Just like with negative thoughts. Imagine these thoughts are just the negative pole of vibrations. You can't get rid of them by fighting them. You get rid of them by focusing on and letting in more of the exact opposite end of the pole, positive vibrations (thoughts). Just like a dark room you don't get rid of the dark by shoveling it out. You don't even touch the dark you just open up a few blinds and let the light do it for you. Hey its working for me. Haven't drank in 2-3 weeks, which was a nightly thing. Haven't smoked cigarettes in 3 days now. When I think about a cig I just ask myself if I really want to die from cancer, no, ok then don't smoke. I want to be as strong as possible in my mind. I want to live as long as possible in my body. |

"i have seen non-smoking non-drinking healthy youngsters struck down at 20 or 30 years and i have seen smokers who guzzled beer like it was water live until they're 70 or 90. no rhyme no reason no choice nor control." I think everybody has seen that. I never said I could or would want to control what happens. I just said that I want to be able to control myself while its happening. Actually NOT trying to control everything has been the toughest part. "You won't let go because you're affraid to fall but the day may come when you can't feel at all" -robert hunter, Comes a Time |

Just curious. Got my old truck fired up, board loaded up. No beer though and lots of sunblock, man I'm getting old No waves either but there never is. Today is knee high and choppy with about 18 mph winds. First time out this year. Only downside is this fucking bandage on my thumb where I damned near tore my nail off with a hammer yesterday. But shit happens. Which reminds me I better bring some duct tape. Have a good day! |

my point is quite simple- if you want to smoke, smoke. if you want to drink, drink. you're going to die anyway and no one will even remember you were ever here. so enjoy what time you have, you never know when it'll be over. the entire earth's destiny is quite fixed, it too is doomed, the clock on the sun's life is already over half gone. an asteroid can end all life here tomorrow or even tonight. a tiny blood vessel in your brain or lung could rip, killing you or making you a vegetable. so quit worrying about statistical risks that take 30 years to happen, if ever. so what if charcoal smoke has been linked to cancer, grill anyway if you like, odds are it won't be cancer that kills you anyway. and even if you should die, that too was destiny, everyone dies. it's no big deal. I live in NC. Man I'm out of shape. Pretty rough today and a little bigger than I thought. My arms are hurting. Good exercise though. The water here is about 80. Durring the summer it gets so hot it doesn't even cool you down. Next month I'm going to buy another board since I've lost some weight. I can't even duckdive this monster I got now. It just tosses me about. I'll hang on to it for small days which are the majority here. Hope everybody had a good friday. Oh yeah, shaved my head today. There's something very cool about the barber shop. They even still have the striped pole outside. When they are done they get your neck with a straight razor and then slap on some of that old man aftershave. It's a great place. |

you know, it'd be cool to be tiny, bug-sized. there's a whole world below our ankles, vast 'forests' of grasses and weeds and great 'beasts' prowl, on the hunt. beetles with horns, armored rolypolys , grasshoppers and fireflies, soldier ants. a twig becomes a mountain, a worm hole a vast cavern. i'll have to try it again my next trip. That would be cool! You could get a blanket and lay down in the back yard... Lots of good people here with good ideas for tripping. My best shroom trip ever was running around the backyard and woods at 3AM.. Naked! It felt primal.. Like I was one with the forest. My lady was keeping an eye on me of corse.. LOL! You should try this hippie... One would be ill advised to do this in the city. |

Yes! This is very interesting... Great concept hippie. I would want to do it outside. Might be interesting if I layed down in the garden and did it. Definatly a new perspective. I have been "BIG" tripping but never "Small". It would be an interesting example of "the emerald tablet".

It begins with Love It begins with Passion It begins with Carboxylic Acid It begins with Giering It begins with stress It begins with seperation It exists with insecurity It burns with fire, inside of your soul Love, Passion, Friendship, all slips away with the slightest lapse of appreciation. Hehehe let me say it was interesting. One night I was on a significant amount of Lsd. A few friends and I wondered into the woods to camp. At some point in the night I ended up climbing and jumping out of a tree in the pure dark(it was the only way down), I had a run in with a herd of cattle and I among other things got to experience a bugs perspective. I remember I found a huge hill and I was on top of it. I decided to lie down and when I did I was on my back. I looked over to my side to see the grass right by my head. My vision zoomed in and I was able to see vast forests and jungle like landscapes expanding into infinity. I sat there looking into that unique and special world for about 30 minutes...following little trails I could find through the grass. It was quite an amazing view point. |

i just read something on erowid about salvia effects whit cannabis the first time i smoked salvia was in an old hashish pipe that had a lot of resin lol here'S what i saw - Some people find combining with Cannabis more effective Some people report that they are unable to achieve any significant effects with Salvia divinorum (even 10x extract) unless they use it on top of a solid base of smoked Cannabis. maybe its the reason that it took me about 7 times the volume ...or maybe its my lighter that don't burn hot enough to vaporise the salvinorin well ill buy a butane lighter soon |

| there was shrinkage eh ? LOL! Yea 6 grams + 40 degree weather turnes the big B+ into a Penis Envy... Hmmmm.. On a more serious note, Check this out Hippie3: THE EMERALD TABLET OF HERMES . ... ..... True, without falsehood, certain and most true, that which is above is as that which is below, and that which is below is as that which is above, for the performance of the miracles of the One Thing. And as all things are from One, by the mediation of One, so all things have their birth from this One Thing by adaptation. The Sun is its father, the Moon its mother, the Wind carries it in its belly, its nurse is the Earth. This is the father of all perfection, or consummation of the whole world. Its power is integrating, if it be turned into earth. Thou shalt separate the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross, suavely, and with great ingenuity. It ascends from earth to heaven and descends again to earth, and receives the power of the superiors and of the inferiors. So thou hast the glory of the whole world; therefore let all obscurity flee before thee. This is the strong force of all forces, overcoming every subtle and penetrating every solid thing. So the world was created. Hence were all wonderful adaptations, of which this is the manner. Therefore am I called Hermes Trismegistus, having the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world. What I have to tell is completed, concerning the Operation of the Sun. Hermes Trismegistus |

Roo/Hip: I'm sure you've seen these books. "The Secret Teachings of All Ages" by Manly P. Hall What an immense tome! Been looking for it for a long time...when I found out my brother had it, I had to borrow it from him! The title doesn't lie...it's all in there! Here's a scan: When I was a depressed teenager, all I could really do was sit and think sometimes...about everything. Lots of insights that were eventually confirmed by my first psychedelic trips. Not long after, I began finding these kinds of books Turns out, they've been confirming just about everything! (Message edited by exshroomer on May 30, 2004) |

LOL! My dad got me in the Masons when I was young also, so I moved pretty quick in there. Pretty much the same symbolism. I am not active anymore but I want to be a shriner. I want to do the clown thing!! We make good men better... I wonder if there are any other fellow travelers out there? I think Hippie is doing the same thing here. Forming a secret society of sorts. Thats why I think it best we stay on the underground as long as we can.. We can do more there than in the open. I am going to steal that last pic for something. Sorry Hippie I feel bad, like I am stealing this thread.. (Message edited by tehuti on May 30, 2004) |

Thank you, each one of those pictures hold something near and dear to me. The third picture is the sun setting on the island of Maui in Hawaii, when I went on vacation there a few months back. I took about 25 pictures of that sunset, hoping just one would turn out just right, and just one did. I'm glad you enjoed that picture though, brings back great memories for me. Peace |

Near my part of the world there were massive wild fires last Oct and it was the worst I’d ever seen. It shut the whole city down and many were forced to sleep in the local football stadium. The sky was red and the smoke so thick the city was dark for 3 entire days. The local terrain here is coastal chaparral and it has evolved to both survive fire and to use fire in its growth cycle. Many of the native seeds are germinated only with fire. Here is a picture of the scorched hillside but note the growth at the bottom of the scrub oak and the California oaks. This is where the fire was the least hot and the first place these fire resilient plants begin to grow. And a close up of the growth at the base of a California coastal oak. These trees are strong and healthy despite being burned completely above ground. There are tons of California poppies coming up everywhere! Very surprisingly a Coyote melon plant has made it thru the fire and is growing very nicely. These plants give gourds about the size of a soft ball and although they aren’t as strong as other gourds the Native Americans used them for a variety of things. The kids and I like to pick them when they’re green and paint them. When they dry the seeds break loose inside and they make great shakers. And all over the hills you can see life returning stronger than ever. Sunflowers coming up everywhere. And here are some assorted picts of the area including one to show how close the fire came to houses nearby. I think over 500 burned to the ground, many right near where these picts came from. Even cactus plants have learned to live thru fires. |
