Interesting little fact about the neighbors

I just found out something very interesting and I wanted to bring people up to date. There will be no negativity in this post, just want to let you all know what I found out.

Between my yard and my neighbors yard there is a section of woods that goes all the way from the street all the way back to the back of both of our properties. Well a couple of years ago a tree died and it was not only past the woods, but in her yard. The woods start out in the front of the properties and the property line is in the middle of the woods. As it goes way to the back the property line goes into their yard (which I guess is our yard, new information) and basically the line goes diagonally. A couple of years ago the tree that died in her yard, she told my mom that if she didn't have it removed that she would sue my mom. She showed my mom the property lines and pointed out that it was our property so we needed to take care of it. She has been dumping her yard debris and all her limbs and cut up trees on our property for awhile now. Next week we are having a surveyor come out and stake the property lines. Just wanted to fill everyone in. That is all.

Question: Does it cost anything to have the Co. assessor come out to stake the property line?

I had to do the same thing for a 10 acre plot I own in Northern Michigan. The neighbor had built a large shed about 20 ft into my property. Not a big deal because they were friends but when they sold their place it had to be moved or it became mine.

Yeah. Towards the back of the properties, we own all of the woods, plus we own a section about 5-7 feet wide and 20 feet long of their grass/yard area. Also, they have a lot of things on our property like planters and little statue things and little lawn equipment things, not to mention all of their yard debris that they have been piling up on our property. Just thought this was all an interesting turn of events.

I doubt it, but maybe. I know that they will have to remove all of the debris and their possessions that are on our property though. Also, they could have claimed squatters rights because they have been using the property for so long that we would have had to have them essentially evicted and notified that it is our property and in 30 days we shall take it back....... except that they told my mom they would sue her a couple of years ago because the tree that definitely looked like it was on their property was in fact on our property.

Here are a few pictures with a crude line showing the estimated property line. You can also see the yard debris that has been piling up for some time. There's a stump right next to where the line ends in the second picture..... That's where the tree was that the neighbor threatened to sue my mom if she didn't have someone remove it.

Break out the marshmallows and lemonade!
Looks like it's time for a good 'ol fashioned bonfire!!

Shame to have neighbors like that but you gotta live and let live.
You're not alone in having jerks living next door.

Hell invite 'em to the bonfire.
Maybe they'll loosen up a little

Kind of funny, they bitched about the tree and lost their dumping grounds, now they have all that work to do.

Actually, you guys' good fortune that they brought your attention to it and eliminated all possibility of taking it by adverse possession. It's all good. Toasted marshmallows for all
