Just wondering if anyone has ever used Perlite instead of Verm and if so how dd it work for you? I remember useing it once a long time ago but I can't remember what the results were for me. I ask because I could not find verm for the life of me the other day so I got perlite instaed.

Lol. I once saw my grandfather bring home the frozen pie crust for my grandmother instead of the homemade kind. She was already in a bad mood so the shit storm which followed was insanely crazy. I would highly recommend getting what you get sent to get. :P

you'll use the perlite later on... but for now search more for verm, it can be ordered online if you can't find any localy.

A guy I know uses perlite for casing, top and bottom layers. I haven't seen it, but he swears it works. He says he gets long, fat shrooms that run the length of the tray under the perlite and pop up at the ends with "tiny caps." I'd have to see it to believe it, but this guy doesn't usually BS.

Smerd, your friend might be getting some shrooms but the perlite probably isn't helping to much. Certainly not as much as verm would. I have set uncased cakes directly on wet perlite in a terrarium. I got lots of big mushrooms on the bottom of the cake where it touched the perlite. The problem is that the cake doesn't get all the mosture, the shrooms get it. The shrooms on the bottom suck up all the water and it makes them look really fat but it's all water weight. When you pick them they are literally dripping. By the time they are completely dry the weigh about 2% of their fresh weight. It might appear to be helping but it probably isn't. Your friend may be getting the shrooms that he would get anyway from an uncased cake. The shrooms might be absorbing water from the perlite which makes them appear to be nice and fat. I'd ask him what percentage of the fresh weight he has left after drying.

Yeah, I'll bet you're right. That's exactly what I've been thinking. I haven't seen his yet, but verm-coir works fine for us.

Ok thanx everyone I appriceate that!However I seem to remember that i did use it for substrate once and it did work Hippie! I always have used it for casings because I know it is less suseptable to contams, and we all hate them!I have a large cacke going now that is starting to colonize myc. so I will take a pic and prove that it will work as a sub.! I asked the question a couple days after I inoculated ans today I have growth and it's also the first time I've checked back to this post. So let me get the camera working and I post a pic for everyone to see! I rememberd when I was doing it to pack the perlite down good so as to make sure the little spaces are diminished I guess you could say it's like useing the courser type verm.

perlite can make decent spawn,
we already have formulas, etc. for its' use
in the archives.
but that's not exactly what you asked,
as verm isn't normally considered a substrate.
so you got me a bit confused,
at first it sounds like you meant pf cakes
then casings then substrate.
so maybe i should have asked what the verm was being used for first.
also
the real question
often is not just
will this work ?
cubies are very indiscriminant, growing on almost anything damp.
so i have no doubt that perlite can be used
in many applications.
however
the real question becomes
is perlite a good choice for casings ?
better than coir or peat or verm ?
prove THAT,
and i'll be impressed.

Well that's it just a basic pf sub with perlite. Accept I used a multi-grain 100% organic flower. I found that this flour works great. It has Rye,Corn,and Brown Rice all in one and colinization is very fast on it. I have found it takes no more than 10 to 14 days to become fully colonized. It is made by: ARROWHEAD MILLS, and I highly recommend it!I will have a pic up later tonight.

oev and cev's, last night i ate roughly 6g's dry, felt effects after about 45 minutes, i thought i was in for a weak trip, so me and the lady smoked a little pot and i layed down to see how it was workin..still nothin too crazy, so i started watchin family guy, bout 20 minutes later i closed my eyes again not really thinkin about the trip, and BOOM..if any of you watch Futurama, there's an episode with a toad called the Hypnotoad, with eyes that moved and flashed kind of while makin a weird weird weird noise...i saw tons of the eyes in 2 rows, one on each side of my closed eye vision, and the sound was present too..this made my body feel extremely funky, only way i can explain it is i kinda felt like an icecube right before it starts to melt.not cold, jus felt like i was gonna melt lol...i opened my eyes after that and had pretty decent waves goin all around the room, the houses swayed outside, and jus general coolness, around 2 hours after i took 'em it kinda died down pretty fast, so far 2 times i smoked pot before i was really trippin, i came down sorta quickly, or got the peak really quickly /shrug...that's the coolest visual i've ever had tho, very awesome, still havn't gotten off yet tho =/...what have you guys seen?

i still tripped for about 5 hours, but nothin close to between the first and the second hour

just remembered i ate an 1/8th, then after the 2 hourish mark, i ate another 2-3g's...i shoulda jus ate 'em all at once, oh well, always a next time ! =)

My first LSD trip (10-9-98), I was on the 9th floor balcony at my friend's apartment, it was night, and I remember looking out at the trees out in the distance and seeing them turn into this big space-ship-like matrix of throbbing lights, and then into a pack of giant lizards, among other things

Auras, electromagnetic waves coming off the TV and computer monitor, and the molecular vibration of everything are what I get on shrooms...I'm sure all of us can type hundreds of paragraphs on this stuff!

Some of the best visuals ive ever had was on lsd.. one of the first times i tried it, and it was a dark night looking at the stars and i must have been hallucinating because most of the stars appeared to be aircrafts, planes and stuff, many-many-many-dozens of aircrafts. hehehe. It was totally weird, real convincing hallucination. I can't really remember any other ones right now.

The best visuals I've had were also on LSD. I remember watching my ceiling (it was blue at the time) fall onto my body in these huge liquid drops. It was bliss.

On a side note I haven't had any good doses for about a year and I miss it. Lets hope Bonnaroo helps me out while I'm there.

Once I kept seeing Nicholas Cage's face every time I looked at the moon. He was smirking, but in a kind, all-knowing way. My CEVs are generally the most interesting and intricate, though.

At night, looking down the river, a mellow rainbow of layers of colored stripes hovering and blanketing the water like a rainbow fog. it stretched as far as I could see.
When I came in, objects on the table melted till they disappeared and then their remaining "vibe"
popped out a big star, almost like in a cartoon, then it also slowly disappeared!

I don't know man that all sounds real sketchy. I am about to do this same venture as I know I_AM_ME is as well. I am thinking that baked goods is the best way to go here. Have it wrapped up as a snack in your carry-on. I am flying internationally and will be on a plane for hours - I have much pondered this and hope to come up with something.

Someone smashed my car's rear window last night at around midnight. I've got a pretty good idea who it was, and if I can confirm it, I'm gonna put them in the hospital. In order to get insurance to pay for it I've got to tell the police, but my question is wether or not to give them the names of the people I think did it.

What do people here think?

Getting it replaced via insurance sounds like a better idea then getting yourself landed in jair for assault to me...


EDIT:
If you (or someone in your house) is growing anything of questionable legality, get it out of the house before you call the police, or at least make sure that it's extremely well hidden, and quiet, non-smelly.

They may want to come out to your house to see the damage, and get a statement. Then again they may ask you to come in to the station for the same reasons.

So any substances or parafinalia in the car should leave as well :P

Didn't get the chance to read these comments before calling the police. They sent a statey down andhe asked me about it.
