| Weed tripping problem... Several months ago now, I had one particular trip during which I got really, really high, and I had really crazy visuals - everything in my peripheral vision morphs violently in different patterns with psychedelic colors. Several weeks after, I got really high and had a trip flashback - I felt like I was tripping again, same visuals and such, but it wasn't quite as strong. It only lasted for a little while. Maybe a week later, I was ready for bed, and I smoked a lot again: the same thing happened, although it wouldn't go away. I was actually a little afraid to go to sleep because I was worried I'd wake up with the same visuals - maybe some kind of HPPD. I was fine the next morning though. A few more months passed - I continued to smoke regularly, as usually. Then out of the blue, I got that flashback again. As time went on, it happened more and more, every week, once or twice a week, and now, it literally happens every time. Every time I smoke, I trip - just the other day, the visuals were SO intense that I couldn't enjoy myself - everything was moving so frantically and my thoughts were really cloudy, just like when I take shrooms. The strange thing is, a couple weekends ago, I tripped on pedro and had really neat visuals where I would see patterns of leaves, snowflakes and other things like Celtic patters insurfaces, like sidewalks, and I just realized that recently when I get the weed trip I get those same visuals! I didn't have them before my pedro trip. This doesn't seem to happen much if I only smoke a little, but that doesn't happen very often. I even forgot recently that I used to not get visuals when I smoked, I'm so used to it now - I started talking about it and all my friends were like, "what the fuck?! dude, that's weird!" and I started getting freaked out! So, now I'm asking everyone's opinion about it. I am considering stopping smoking for a while - I am tired of getting strong visuals every time I get high. Furthermore: whenever I'm in this same state of mind, my imagination is horrifically vivid. I get paranoid as hell! If I imagine something, it feels real! for instance, I imagined what it would be like to have to "bite the curb," (you know, where you're forced to bite the curb and you get your head kicked into it - gangsters do it,) happening to me, and I could actually feel (not literally, but sooo close,) my teeth breaking off into my mouth and my gums being scrapped away by the cement, with the actual dread of death! I was actually sacred! I started shaking! I feel like it's actually happening to me! And the same thing can be applied to other things that I imagine. You know when you fall off from a building in a dream, or die in a dream, and you think, "Oh, God! I'm actually dying! this is actually happening! I'm dying! Fuck!" and the there's that feeling of dying, and you wake up from the dream kind of shaken and it bares down on you for the rest of the day, well, it's just like that! I get really shaky and the thoughts torment me later. If I watch a scary movie I feel like I'm actually there, I feel just as scared as if I were in that scenario. I think my emotions or something are on overdrive - maybe a chemical in my brain was trained to release when I get high, through my use of psychedelics, in situations that aren't appropriate - my mind can't understand that it's not supposed to take things so seriously. I don't know if I don't like it or not because it's so damned incredible... Anyway: does anyone else experience anything like this? Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening? |

| Maybe you should smoke less, like 2 or 3 tokes instead of smoking alot. Its a plant to be respected and not abused thats for sure

| I was having similar problems, I stopped smoking because of anxiety as well, It was a little to heavy on the mind for me, I think Rev is right too, sativa gave me very clear thoughts, and more of a trace effect of tripping, whereas the indica was a very heavy, slow motion distorted type of tripping very open to anxiety. |

| Oh I trip everytime I get stoned too, now. It does not nice things to my mind aswell.. thoughts I can't get rid of.. I become terribly analytical. I quit smoking last week, along with everything else apart from ketamine. Sometimes you just need to give your mind a rest. |

| Thank you sooo much guys for reading my long post and responding! Last night was literally one of my worst nights ever, I was scared like a child: freaking out! I couldn't sleep and I was on the verge of crying all night. (Now, I don't know why I didn't take any of my xanax, but I guess I wasn't thinking coherently enough to make that decision.) Doing better now. But it was definitely traumatizing, one of the more traumatizing times of my life. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was so paranoid that nobody would answer and I would feel even more helpless. I guess it's just some shit that can happen to you.(?) DAMN! I'm so relieved! I really want to try ketamine, Ceci. I'll just stick to my kratom, xanax and the occasional trip, I guess. Weed's getting too horrifying to me, although, I'll see if I can get some sativa: not too popular where I live, as far as I know, though I could probably get some if I try. |

| same thing happens here. i really cant handle smoking massive ammounts of weed anymore. its just not enjoyable. i get so much more out of just takeing a single hit of good bud these days. its like the difference between a few glasses of wine and shotgunning a 6-pack lol

Ketamine is fantastic! I can't actually deal with tripping, it's alright while it's going on, but afterwards it mushes my mind to very worrying levels It doesn't make you paranoid at all, though it can be a bit frightening the first time. I reccomend it! | |

| Weed is definitely a hallucinogen. I have had similar issues. It actually happens to me after not smoking for a long time. You are expecting to get high but instead you start sliding out the door into the abyss. I have also had times when I have been meditating and have sorta run into the same territory but then I can usually controll the direction of the ride. Once your brain chemicals have paved the road into this territory they never forget. Opening doors? I've also had dreams when I've been trippin balls and wake up to realize I'm dreaming but as soon as I close my eyes I'm trippin again. Kinda fun if you can look at it in the right frame of mind. You start to realize that all reality is just about brain chemicals and how to regulate them. Keep on keepin on.... |

| Same thing happens here. 3-4 hits and I start to trip like on mushrooms or something like them. First time i got so afraid because i was waiting for something calm and relaxant, but now I got used to it, when I eventually smoke i can enjoy it for like 3 hours. Also I noted that if I eat 3g or more of dry P. cubensis I generally get completely unaware of reality with so intense visuals that i can't determine what's real and what's an hallucination. Do you guys who have strong trips with weed are way too much sensitive to mushrooms too? That would be a nice correlation ![]() |

| A friend likes to smoke lots of weed, but one little shroom sends him flying; I mention it because I thought it a bit different. Another tokes all the time and doesn't like shrooms. I have a high tolerance for both, though I don't smoke a lot any more. I've been puffing for 40+ years, have occasionally quit for anything from a month to years. Same with folks I know. Maybe it's a case of we felt the bad reactions coming on and quit while we were ahead. This thread fascinates me. I and most of my friends are sixties survivors, and this is the first I've heard of this. Some have quit because it makes them sleepy but 'trip weed' has always been something you hope to find. Have to admit to being a sativa fan, that's what I grew up on so to speak, but when I get into Indica I usually just lay off earler. New viewpoints. Interesting.

| First time I smoked, I tripped BALLS! Weed is one hell of a 'gateway' drug. I know that if I was to stop smoking and allow myself to detox, I'd have a similar experience after a couple months wait. I found that I was just as sensitive to mushrooms after 4g. Holy Shit. I love tripping, so I can actually make myself trip harder, and then it scares the shit out of me because I forget that I love it. Erm, frustrating. I had a friend of mine that was a huge pothead that started 'tripping' after getting a perscription for a mood doculator. The chemicals in out brains are definately finicky, tis fun while it lasts! |

| Anytime I get anxious, and my mind turns to analyzing anything and everything I do or think or what others may think of me... that's when I know i've smoked too much herb. 2 hits is enough to keep me happy and introspective (a real plus when meditating) for several hours. If I want to be around people, just 1 is enough. I haven't had any 'trippy' visuals, but I've felt vibrations resonating so strong one evening that I thought I could hear a voice coming from the water cooler. Now I just turn it off when smoking up. I'm not sure that I really want to trip on herb like I do on shrooms, but if it works for you, that's great. ![]()

| Just an update: Not doing too well. I'm actually dealing with a lot PTS and depression now. I cry randomly throughout the day unprovoked. Hopefully it won't take long for me to get over this shit. I think my case is due mostly to repressed childhood trauma. |

| [Not doing too well. I'm actually dealing with a lot PTS and depression now.] Hang in there man. Been around that block myself. Too many times. The best thing I can reccomend is meditation. A therapist turned me on to Zen style meditation. Basically saved my life, no shit. You gotta get in there and dump the baggage or it'll never get any better. Therapist, groups, and finally the disipline to keep your shit together. You have to stay in shape with your mind as well as body. You literally have to reprogram your brain pathways. Sounds crazy but everday you just reinforce the old programming and it aint workin no more. You are tryin to get to another level and your old brain messasges are holdin you back. Its cool to go to a "good" therapist and spill it all out, tell about all the trips and isuues and then they can help stitch you back together. Get some excercise, get outside in the woods by yourself. Its all good out there no old messages just pure love from the mother of all. Paradime shift is needed. Make it happen, you got nothin but alot of bad programming to loose. Keepon......... |

| Thanks for the nice advice and supportive words, Reveneye. My therapist taught me some nice breathing exercises, and from his advice, I'm going to take up swimming again. I love swimming, it's such a great escape and the breathing is very good for your body. |

| we are born from water, and finding our way back we begin to revel in its deeper mysteries... swimming and soccer are my two favorite forms of exercise and sport. definitely something meditative about following one stroke after another, not to mention co-ordinating it all around consistent breathwork. ![]()

| Damn dude I hope you find something that helps. Sounds like a chemical imbalance. I'm no doctor, but I think physical activity may help. Ive been lucky, I don't think I have been terrified but once in my life and that was when I was a child. I cant imaging being terrified every time I tried to relax and enjoy life. |

| i have the same thing, ever since i done did acid. except its not as crazy. and i dont get scared. but i hate when its paired with the weed paranoia, and i get auditory hallucinations. we can never stay in the same spot for more than like 15 minutes at a time when were really high. but the CEV's and the vivid imagination are all there (i even had the same bite the curb thing happen to me. it was scary as hell!) |

| I think that weed is a self-limiting drug. It helps you throughout your life, helps you figure out who you are, what you believe in, how you perceive life, helps you determine your values and morals. Once it starts to get in the way of your life, starts to harm you physically, emotionally, or mentally, I think it has a way of telling you, 'Yo, maybe its time to cut back a little'. It helps you get your life back on track and where you need to be. |

| Hope all is well, looks like some great advice being given in here. Just another example so you know you're not alone in this, I had a good stoner-buddy back in the day, who one day took a heavy dose of acid and had a terrible trip; from that point on, any time he smoked herb he would "flashback" to that trip, and described very similar symptoms as what you've been describing. That was the first time I'd heard of weed causing a "bad trip", but after reading through this thread, I guess its quite a bit more common than I imagined. The only advice I could offer is to try and get ahold of some schwag/ditchweed; as others suggested its probably wise to cut back a bit on the smoking, but for someone used to smoking, I know how un-appealing that idea might sound... switching to some low-grade (assuming you can find it, I've been searching for some myself and havnt had much luck...) might help keep these unwanted highs at bay, while still allowing you to get your smoke on. As much as I love some kind buds, I really find that I miss the ceremony of de-seeding, rolling, and enjoying the whole process of smoking a good bit of weed, without falling into a coma after 3 hits. :P Sending out some good vibes, hope they find you well. |
