    Coyote's Make a Kill

I was tripping with a close friend this last Saturday night and we made our way back into the hills on a golf course. We were tripping balls big time. At some points when we felt like we were dead and our souls were just floating around in the breeze. It finally became too cold for us to lay there anymore and we started on our way back. This is were the trip took a turn.

Things were fine and then we came out of the golf course into a residential neighborhood. I started to feel bad. Many bad vibes. The city below. Rows of houses, people in them. As we walked I felt as if we looked like junkies and someone was going to call the cops on two suspicious people walking through their neighborhood. We had a portable music player playing some Neil Young and that comforted me a bit. Then it stopped playing for some reason and we both fell into panic mode. It was my music player and it just looked foreign to me...I couldn't figure it out.

Just then we heard a pack of coyotes howling and barking. We stopped in our tracks to listen. They sounded only about a hundred yards out in the darkness and we could hear them running. Amidst the growling and snarling we hear this blood curling screaming from another animal...maybe a dog or one of their own. We could almost picture the coyotes tearing into the flesh of another animal as it yelped out in pain for help. The screams from the animal being attacked and the growling of the coyotes were echoing off of the hills from all around. It was so loud. Then it all fell silent. Only the lonely sound of the crickets could now be heard as we stood there listening. The dying animal let out one last piercing yelp in pain and then silence again. This event jarred me from my prior panic of the suburban neighborhood and its haunting feeling. So then I said to my friend, "I feel bad for the animal, but this is the primal state of nature. It has to happen. I'm on no ones side here". We walked in silence for a few minutes contemplating what just happened. The cries of help from the dying animal kept replaying in my head and I could hear it so clearly, but strangely I didn't feel sad for it, or happy for the coyotes. I felt emotionless even though I said I feel bad for the animal.

Somehow the music started again and brought us out of the repeating thoughts of what just happened. The panic came back when we reached a major intersection and it seemed so busy and loud, so far away from nature. The panic subsided when we finally reached my apartment and felt safe inside our cave again. Wow...INTENSE!!!!

    pretty crazy.
what a time to have it happen eh?

I got a Q tho..... what in the forest kills coyotes???

cuz last year we were running on some trails through a large forest (for exercise) lol...
when we stopped to take a swig of h20....

and my brother looked down and says " holy shit bro look at this!!"
it was an entire coyote carcass..... head separated from the body....
and meat eaten off its ribs... and internal organs gone.... just the head, fur all on it, besides the bottom where the brain stem and those goodies are...

it was like the whole mid section was stripped... but the hind legs, and head n stuff were still there...looked like itd been there a week or 2...

    other coyotes?

I'm assuming other coyotes. We were also thinking maybe someones dog got out, and the coyotes attacked it. It was a crazy time to hear it all happen though. We kept saying, "Did that just happen?". We could tell it was a pack of coyotes because of their high pitch barks and yelps. There wasn't any forest where we were at, mostly hills. Southern California. The coyote you saw may have fallen ill and died if it wasn't picked apart yet. I think they would kill a weaker coyote in the pack if it becomes injured or ill. Survival of the fittest.

That all depends on which forest in what geographical location...

Sounds like a great experience surfer. One to remember for years on end.

a dead animal that something else ate off from? a golf course was also one of my memorable expieriences. not the smarter thing to do, but i also had a fear of the row houses that surrounded it. in the middle of the green in the middle of the night, we watched our footprints make the trails of slugs in the dew. it wasnt shrooms but some very decent acid.

Depending on your location.... if not other coyotes, wolves will hunt and prey on them.....also cougars and mountain lions.
