The Regulator

His is a tale of sorrow. His spirit roamed the land for untold ages, waiting for the chosen day to appear. His people warred with one another and he rested quit. They warred with the white man and he rested quiet. The forest was cut down, save a small sanctuary and he rested quiet. Years passed then centuries. His existence was one of despair for there was neither knowledge nor need for the likes of him. Many times he begged The Great Spirit to call him home. The Great Spirit said nothing and many times he wept. One day, The Great Spirit spoke to him as he wandered through the forest. The Great Spirit told him that a man wanted him to leave the forest and walk with him in the grassland. He wept once more. War and greed are his enemies now and he pursues them with great ferocity. For these are the things that man wields so cruelly and have brought him terrible suffering. He cares for neither love nor land. Time has worn that lust away long ago. He desires only that you live in tranquility with yourself and others and he will hold you to it. He has grown powerful over time. It is vast and enveloping. When you wield him, you will know goddamned will he is The Regulator, and he will rest quiet no more.

This pipe has been calling me for some time now. At least since last January or so. I've made very few of this type of pipe and I'm not sure why this one was selected. Fate I suppose. Well whatever the reason is, it's under way and I'm very happy it's happening.

I wanted to wait for the right time to go into the forest to find his pieces. The other day it rained and things looked right, so off I went. I took pictures of my path but the wi-fi connection I'm on right now isnt the greatest so I'll post those tomorrow.

Thats good! I'm glad to hear that especially in these times.

These are the pics I took when I went out to find his parts. The ones with all the creeping vines is where I pulled his smoke tube from. This is the place I go to for peace and tranquility. This pipe is a peace pipe. There are quite a few more steps in the making of these so the process will be a little longer. Just remember, good things come to those who wait.

Looks like it wont let me post all the pics in one thread, I'll have to split them up I guess.

Regulator! his tale reminds me ever so slightly of another regulator tale i know. ok different stories but they have their similarities haha:

This is a collection of his primary parts. With the exception of the leather, everything has or will come from my property. I won't be using all of the feathers shown. Probably only one or two of them and Im not sure which ones yet. Have to see how the land lays when that time comes. The first section I will work on is the smoke tube.

Bark removal is complete. The next step will be to open up and clear out the smoke tube. A decent fire will be needed for that...

Bro, is the Smoke tube dry wood or green wood? looked dry but the bark looked green.

Def use the bueto feather for the flying soaring majic contained within, good medicine is what all good soaring pipes bring their holders.

I had a nice pipe that I made out of pine. I had moved out of the house to Mammoth Lakes and the first thing I did was find a nice piece of wood to whittle. It came out killer but then a year later some A-hole stole my truck with it inside. I could care less about my truck but was pissed about the pipe! This thread is making me want to try my hand at some wood working.

Correct. A long straight piece of oak or a sturdy wire(preferable). Coat hangers are nice for that but don't last too long from the heat. They give way after a while. The wire is placed in the coals of a decent fire until red hot. You burn your way through the pith of the branch. It takes a few runs depending on the length of the pipe but it works out well. The type of wood is crucial for this type of pipe. The local natives used the staghorn sumac for the smoke tubes of their pipes. I saw no reason to challenge their decision. Wisdom of the ages is difficult to go against.

Nice bro,

How do you take your smoke tube branch from its mother root? From a dry or dead tree, or do you ask, then cut it fresh and then dry it?

I was taught to leave something in return as offering, when working with living plants, I leave loose tobacco in gratitude, my cousins showed me that one.

When you pass a good sized construction job, you will find a place where they are suspending ceilings (t-bar) the wire they use is bigger than clothes hangers.

I use a big frensel lens to do my wood burnings (no fires allowed), the smoke is the best part, it makes you sing your grandfather song, it makes you cry when you sing it to the wood and the tears keep the wood protected with the salt from your eye's.

Do you sing to the wood, to the Grandfather when you put your intent into a piece?

My buddy does the same thing too, sometime I'll jump in on the widdle session. He's made quite a few nice pipes out of apple wood. I have been thinking about making a peacepipe, just one long wood tube, maybe a foot and carve out the flat bottom of a small dear horn for the bowl and attach to end of wood pipe. Might even wrap the pipe with leather, beads and maybe a feather. So many ideas when it comes to wood working.

Ive had a lot of little odds and ends to drag me down lately. Nothing crucial, just time consuming. Anyway, I've got the smoke tube pressed into the bowl and the seal is good. Sorry Lysergic, I had to test for a good seal. I will sand off my filth once I've gotten close to the end. I need to finish the bowl off and then over to the wrapping.

OK. I made bead after bead for this pipe and none of them were right. They all went into the fire. Months of work and searching gone. I walked and walked for nothing. Writers block to say the least. I tell you I was pissed at myself and disappointed to be sure. At one point in a drunken haze I slapped my self in the face and uttered a few charming insults towards the filth I was. That pipe sat on my table just waiting for me to pull my shit together. Last weekend I decided to take in some woodrose seed a very good 'topia friend gave me. (Thanks bro, I fucking mean that) It was just to calm myself and enjoy the silence of fall but it was much needed in any case. I did my cwe on that and down it went. I pulled out Ophelia and loaded her up with some fine grass I traded for some shrooms. After a bit, I felt the lsa come on and I went out to my sitting place to relax. Twas nice as I laid down and watched the clouds. I huffed for a bit and the synergy was nice. Through the thorn tree I laid under I enjoyed the sun and sky. There was not bird nor bee nor frog. Only wind. I pulled my focus onto one of the thorns. That's when I knew. That's when it came to me. My eyes welled up as I rose to my feet. I grasped the thorn that was not 10 feet from where I found the smoke tube. "The Regulator shall grasp peace with ferocity and rend those who would oppose his desire". Those are the words I uttered.

I use a big frensel lens to do my wood burnings (no fires allowed), the smoke is the best part, it makes you sing your grandfather song, it makes you cry when you sing it to the wood and the tears keep the wood protected with the salt from your eye's. Do you sing to the wood, to the Grandfather when you put your intent into a piece? powerful. __________________ E-ticket or nada.

Nothing crucial, just time consuming. Anyway, I've got the smoke tube pressed into the bowl and the seal is good. Sorry Lysergic, I had to test for a good seal. Months of work and searching gone. I walked and walked for nothing. Writers block to say the least. I tell you I was pissed at myself and disappointed to be sure. At one point in a drunken haze I slapped my self in the face and uttered a few charming insults towards the filth I was. That pipe sat on my table just waiting for me to pull my shit together. Last weekend I decided to take in some woodrose seed a very good 'topia friend gave me. (Thanks bro, I fucking mean that) It was just to calm myself and enjoy the silence of fall but it was much needed in any case. I did my cwe on that and down it went. I pulled out Ophelia and loaded her up with some fine grass I traded for some shrooms. After a bit, I felt the lsa come on and I went out to my sitting place to relax. Twas nice as I laid down and watched the clouds. I huffed for a bit and the synergy was nice. Through the thorn tree I laid under I enjoyed the sun and sky. There was not bird nor bee nor frog. Only wind. I pulled my focus onto one of the thorns. That's when I knew. That's when it came to me. My eyes welled up as I rose to my feet. I grasped the thorn that was not 10 feet from where I found the smoke tube. "The Regulator shall grasp peace with ferocity and rend those who would oppose his desire". Those are the words I uttered.
