![]() ![]() ![]() | Shroom Tea color
When I had first harvested and dried my shrooms back in August, they would make a blue colored tea after they were ground up and put in a tea bag to soak for 15 minutes. I went to try about 5g today and I don't get the blue color at all, more like a deep tan. I'm afraid they may have degraded even though they were kept in air tight containers between 65-75F. They are still brittle dry, but I'm hoping my whole crop isn't lost. Does the lack of that blue color mean they are worthless now or what? *heavy sigh* |

I like to see the dark indigo ink colored tea but i would'nt discount the lack of bluing as meaning inactive. After three months of proper storage as you described they should still be potent. One way to know for sure is to bioassay

Thanks MW! I'm going to try it out later tonight. I tend to have to use more grams for the tea to get the intended effect than just eating dried fruits. It makes me shudder to just THINK of the taste of dry cubies. I've tried downing them with OJ, eating with peanut butter, and whatever other suggestions have worked for others, but tea is just much smoother for me with less of the undesirable effects. I too like to see that deep blue color, which is why I feared they might have lost their kick. We'll see.

Your welcome and gluck! I'm with you on the tea. I never eat fruits by themselves I smash them in hot water[as little as possble] and down the hatch chased with an ice cold beer!

Bluing is not related to psilocybin content. There are numerous totally non-active mushrooms that blue just the same as cubensis. If they were good when you put them into the freezer, they should still be good today.

Ive seen em turn tea blue, greenish, tan, and kind of brown/oil-ish looking. It always works for me. The times they turn the tea really blue is usually when I use a really low water content. Only one way to find out bro ![]() And yeah I hate the taste too

![]() ![]() ![]() | no luck
It would appear that the fruits degraded over time. I tried 4gm last weekend and then 6.5gm dry last night with no liftoff at all. Not even a sign of ramping up. Needless to say, I'm quite disappointed. It's a good thing I have some pans in the fruiting chamber. Hopefully I'll be enjoying those in another week or two. Thanks to all that replied!

How do you dry your mushrooms? And do they become cracker dry? My pans this summer were not dried properly, they never got to the cracking stage, and they very quickly lost potency. I suspect improper drying was to blame.

I use a 5 layer dehydrator with the heating element removed. I usually will let them sit on the trays drying for 2-3 days. Do they get so dry that they crumble like a cracker? Close, but not quite. If they are thin yes, they do get to that level, but the thicker parts never really get that brittle, but they flake a quite a bit when pinched. I'm assuming they absorbed moisture from the air after they were removed from dehydrator. They were sealed in containers and stored in cool dry place, but they were not sealed in air tight bags/freezer bags.

I agree with Hippie on that. And also, you can put ample amounts of silica gel bags in the jars you store them in. My 'almost dry' pans became cracker dry very fast when I put a lot of fresh silica gel in the container. The drying/storage procedure may not be the cause of the weak shrooms, but IMO it's one easy thing to change next time.
