![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Tex on BB Nugget - mycoporn
Tex are interesting looking. They are a little smaller than B+/EQ and have a slightly darker, warmer coloration. The stems are shorter, but a little more dense with less hollow in the center. The caps show more texture than the "classic" smooth golden cubensis my friend is used to. The young primordia show very dark coloration and keep pronounced spots often through adulthood. The veil is quite thick and stays in strands on the cap after breaking. You can see it in the pictures, hanging all scraggly off the sides of the mature caps. Tex are very heavy spore producers and blue quite nicely when bruised. The myc was strongly rhizomorphic. The bio-assay division gives 'em two thumbs up as nice cubies. The growing department said they were a breeze, though they were minimal invitro performers from multispore. They did great on cakes from multispore, though. Mature Tex cap (I love the spots and color): ![]() Some immature caps, showing their spots: tex cap small - 1.jpgtex cap small - 2.jpgtex cap small - 3.jpg A nice litte third flush on a BB Nugget:

ach, missed until just now, many threads here these days, hard to keep up. for those unsure just exactly what a BB nugget is- http://forums.mycotopia.net/showthread.php?t=11576 (Buckaroo Bulk Nugget Tek (invitro, spawn bags and/or ½ gallon jars)) to my eye those look quite similar to EQ and not all that much like TEX just goes to show how much variety is in a sporeprint

Thanks, dudes. I knew this had just gotten sifted down (reminder to self: don't publish on Saturday morning). So sorry to self bump...I know it can make you blind...I SWEAR I wasn't just fishing for compliments... But, yeah, these are the most "different" looking cubies my FOAF has seen yet (he of the highly experienced "wow I've fruited four strains" club!). His EQ's looked damned near identical to his Hillbillys and B+. Maybe a good reminder that these are not only just strains, but repeatedly cultivated strains, of the same primary (easily mutated) mushroom. Maybe all these terrestrially/biologically diverse and widespread "strains" are really just little more than environmentally dominant phenotypes. Fun stuff watching 'em develop and playing with their food and environment, regardless. Cubensis is an amazingly adaptable life form.

all variations on a theme and on occasion any 'strain' might exhibit characteristics of another 'strain' as they all draw from the same master DNA 'print'

Thank you, sirs Python and Golly! And just to prove that the Myco Gods are listening, look what my FOAF found in a project tonight: ![]() That's B+ on bulk. Same strain, same substrate, same flush (even the same cluster of fruits)...totally different looking caps. Cool stuff, this home mycology thing!
