![]() ![]() | Cambos on lil straw plastic container blocks, again Decided to do something similar to this here with cambos on straw. (Dooby Does Cambos On Straw Pints) Various containers, plastic pints, and some sherbert containers. Yes, quart sized plastic sherbert containers. The straw was pasteurized using bleach and a lil lime, drained, and spawned using fresh pf-cakes. A layer of spawn was used on the bottom, some straw, some spawn, some straw again, and then some spawn on the top. I've found this layer approach very good for getting quick full colonization. ![]() ![]() ![]() Less than 24hrs after spawning the straw, there is visible white growth inside all the containers! ![]() ![]() |

oh, and to chop the straw like that, I used a leaf muncher/mulcher I got from here - http://www.eco-gardening.com/docs/co...lchmaker.shtml The larger strips, I just toss aside and don't use. They tend to stick out and let contams get em b4 the myc reaches up it. Otherwise though, this mulcher is the best thing I've seen Makes quick work of a bale and makes it very nice and good sized, oh, and is adjustable. ![]() ![]()

The exact ratio.. Hmm, unsure... I think that's like a 5-6 gallon thing I used, put like a cup of beach or so and 4-5 tablespoons of lime. One time I put way to much lime and nothing would take to it at all, but that lil bit, still, goes far and adjusts the ph bad for contams, ok for mycelium spawn stuff. Just a few spoons. The bleach I kinda just dumped it in there, but my estimate was about a cup. To drain it I just dumped that thing upside down and let it sit outside for two days since I was busy Had a tiny tiny tiny hint of bleach smell left which went away after I put it in that bag and had it open for 15 min.

![]() ![]() | How are they coming along you ask??? Quite well. Straw always seems to need TONS of air change cuz the mycelium feeds on it so quickly.I've begun to flip these containers now for 24hrs periods to let the co2 sorta drain out of them since it is heavier than air. A noticeable difference in growth was seen the same day. Why flip em back over? Well, basically, I don't see fresh air going into them flipped upside down, where as with a room fan going and them right side up, some fresh air can get blown into the holes. Now, this is not alot, a very very lil in fact. But, as the co2 builds up again, it's sorta hanging out in the containers with no where to go. It's heavier than air as I mentioned earlier (ever play with dry ice? The co2 gas sinks to the floor). So flipping, helps drain some excess c02 without really doing much work.![]() ![]() ![]() |
