![]() | First post, growing palenque on straw
Hi this is my first post on this forum. What a great site with a lot of cool stuff about this great hobby! I've cultivated shrooms once before about three years ago on cased rye. So after all this time i thought it's about time to pick up this great hobby again. But this time I wanted to do it in a bulk way and i want to keep it simple but effective. So I decided to spawn colonized rye to straw without casing in a simple tub closed with see-through plastic on top tied with elastic band and two black garbage bags on top of that to keep it dark as long as the mycelium is still growing. Dimensions of the tub are: HxWxD: 29x34x50cm / 11.5x13.5x20 inches The moisture of the straw seems to suffice to keep the humidity high enough, the hygrometer constantly points at about 95% and I never misted or anything. Once a day I open it up to fan it with a piece of cardboard. When the shrooms appear I'll fan it twice a day because of the CO2 they produce. I've used these three 1000ml jars of colonized rye that I had innoculated with palenque spores and kept in the incubator at around 27 C till they were colonized enough and spawned them at thursday the 5th of April to the straw. ![]() This is the straw spawned with rye 4 days later, on the 9th of april. The layer of straw is about 8-10cm / 3-4 inches thick. ![]() 6 days after spawning on the 11th of april. ![]() This is what it looks like today, 8 days after spawning. ![]() ![]() As you can see, at this time the straw has colonized quite far so I hope that all goes well and that the first pins will appear soon. |

Hiii, great job on a nice write up, ! ive got the same set up going on, (except cased) and they are pinning up pretty nice do you mind if i post some pinning pics here? since yours will be awhile in coming they are palenques as well.. maybe we can compare cased and uncased.. Ive heard a few negative things about the Palenques, bout how they taste nasty and arent very potent.. do you know anyone thats tried them? |

![]() | Ok, nice. Although guests seem not able to see the pics in between the text, maybe because I linked the urls of the pics to the attachments in the edit section in stead of the preview section. Which may also be the cause of the pics totally failing at first. But anyway I know now how to do it next time. |

Well I tried to cut them all with scissors at about 4 inches but I guess there are a bunch that escaped the scissors. Though it seems a good idea to cut them smaller next time, so I'll try that next time.

Yeah cool to compare I'm curious, how big is your tub? Well in a smartshop in Rotterdam, Holland the mexican species they sell there are palenque and I've eaten a portion of 35 grams fresh of them several times and they taste good. I think not much different then other cubes. I think potency is just average.

![]() | Those are 1 liter polypropylene jars with filter already fitted, they are called microboxes. Since I live in the Netherlands I bought them at a dutch supplier (I think it's not appropriate to call the name considering it's not a sponsor) but you can also buy them at Sporeworks Follow this link for them: http://sporeworks.com/store/product....2&cat=0&page=1 |
