so i was mulling over the noise coming out the tube and i thought to myself the net effect of what they are proposing is a single payer universal coverage system 1. there is a basic minimum services that all health insurance plans must provide : no coverage caps, covers prexisting conditions etc. (this is the single payer's plan, all insurance companies carry it) 2. individual mandate = universal coverage 3. fine for not getting health insurance and subsidy if you cant afford it (strict price control. if any health plan costs more than the fine, why bother getting it, the basic plan covers everything anyway) so in the end we all must get insurance and we dont have to pay any more than the fine for a no lifetime cap, no prexisting conditions, covers preventative care etc. etc. etc., and the fine can be subsidised personally a fine of $1300 for family insurance is less than half what i used to pay for an employer plan with co-pays and deductibles that is why insurance companies want to increase the fine, coz after obama signs that bill, the health care market is now under price control, no need for a "public option" the government sets the price of insurance in the form of a "fine", it sets the services that must be provided, and everyone must get it, and if you cant pay, they will pay for you. the entire system is a public option, with insurance companies acting as administrators instead of creating a new government agency yeah America the beautiful"Change has come to America" when you win , you win thats some heavyweight politics brutally efficient power-grab you really have to respect how all the resources are being put to use |

i have little sympathy for the insurance companies / health care providers - their fees are exorbitant, their service is crap and the care offered is often based, not on medical advice, but on the bottom line of corporate balance sheets. 'price-fixing' seems in order- the state already regulates the allowable rates for other forms of insurance = auto, life, etc. so why not health ? let's end the $500 ambulance bills, the bills for $600 to get an antibiotic 'scrip after a 3 hour wait and a 3 minute 'exam'.

My wife had her foot nearly severed when a postal worker ran a stop sign and obliterated her car with my son in it. If it were government health care, she wouldnt be walking today. The medical bill was just over 84K and worth every penny. The government caused this problem by taking money from insurance companies in exchange for well tailored laws to suit their lust for wealth. Funny how folks loath and distrust the government but then lust to be taken care of by it. You can't have it both ways you know. Make up your mind.

The hospital I was just in for less than 2 days and had a 1 hour operation was paid 49,185.00 and change, from the 50-51k they were asking for. I live on a fixed income and of course with Medicare I owe them $950.00 but $100.00 a month I offered to pay therm is not good enough for payments each month without me paying 8.5-12% interest on top of that. the SOB'S crooks....... I told them not paying a dime take me to court you can't touch a dime of my disability retirement and by the way you did not fix my heart problems anyway so again screw you! RestartLater PS awaiting how to find out how much Humana might pay for the expensive abulance ride. $,3,800.00 Also yesterday they approved 10.5 million dollar payouts to certain AGI employees..... why because they insure all government officials and after all they deserve better than the people they represent right :+}~ |

my lady had to have a bronchoscopy to rule some shit out the hospital billed us $33,000 for like 5 hrs total contact time (including all pre and follow-up appointments) my insurance paid just under $4000 for the same bill, free and clear that is bullshit were the services worth 33K or 4K? and why was i being charged all ridiculous like that and an insurance company which has way more cheese than me pays a fucking tenth of the price im charged i was pissed, $29,000 difference thought it might be illegal, but its not after that i started really caring about politics im done getting fucked around if i can help it |

I don't really know what the perfect solution to the health care problem would be. I think one of the biggest problems, is politicians taking money from lobbyist. I thought our elected officials were supposed to work for the people, not the highest bidder. Why are the congressmen writing the reform bills, the ones who have received some of the most money from the lobbyist?

not a fact. said opinion is based on pre-existing bias, political not medical. in rebuttal injured soldiers with most grievous wounds are routinely treated by government health care- one-legged vets i have seen running, even returning to combat. ![]() our fatality casualty rates are so low because their government health care is the best there is, bar none. i was in the navy, and was well cared for, tooth, eyes and body.

My ex-gf is on disability, and relies on medicare/medicaid. She's had a nearly-fatal aneurism, a majpr heart attack, multiple bypasses, multiple stents, an untold number of procedures, and diagnostics, is diabetic, and has several other chronic conditions. Her health care is complete, comprehensive, and fully covered. Including daily in-home nursing care. I'd guess that most insurance companies would have dropped her years ago. As much as people bitch about it, medicare/medicaid works. Very low administrative overhead, and no burden of huge salaries and showplace corporate headquarters. No big bucks for actuaries hired to minimize their risk of having to pay legitimate expenses.
