Nixon was a tool of Henry Kissinger, but Nixon believed it was the other way around. That was Kissinger's genius, and I think it's odd that almost no one thinks it's odd that he's still around and has never stopped wielding great influence in gov't (no matter the party in office) but Presidents come and go.

I guess that ultimately does make sense because the purpose of a President is not to wield power, it's to distract attention away from it. I first found that profound insight in one of the best books about politics and human society I've ever read: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

In these chaotic times, we really need to keep our towels handy because soon enough we're gonna need 'em. And no matter what, Don't Panic.
