finding oysters

i've been out looking for oysters quite a few times over the past couple months. We've had a number of nights where it drops below freezing. I still havn't seen any. Can someone give me some insight to where they find their oysters? Like, deep in the woods, on trails, in the park....
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I've typically find them in woods on dead or dying hardwood trees. Your temps may be a bit to cold.

I usually find them in the spring on hardwoods such as alder. In the fall, we find Angel Wings, a relative to oysters, on softwoods.

Along creeks, rivers, moist draws, on dead and dying cottonwoods.

look on maples , cottonwoods , almost all hardwoods. they hide
well. i found some yesterday. good luck

And important tactic I learned when hunting oysters is to carefully examine every log from every angle. I found a tree with just two or three oysters, which I picked and started to walk away when my companion went to the other side and found two or three pounds!

Seems simple, but trust me you'll be glad you looked around.

Most of the nice oyster clutches I've found have been high up in trees. Don't forget to look skyward!

Little bit late in the season for oysters. Usually early fall, late aug - early october. all of the suggestions of where to look are good. They typically don't survive very long, so it really is luck of the draw.

I've come across some nice oysters growing on trees one day, and by the next, they were all dead and cappy.

sometimes you get lucky and find them really fresh.

damn....ok so there's always next season.

I was actually looking to culture it out and play with a wild mushroom a bit.
