![]() | So.... Whatcha Think? Hypsizygus ulmarius? An old pic. This cluster lasted forever. I watched it come and go and drooled. I guess it wasn't important enough to print or scope out at the time.... WHY? I must be retarded. I dunno. I was really busy at the time tho. I REALLY want to cultivate this species too! Ahhhh, life is funny. Anyhoo, I know its not much to go on, but it was found at the root system of a deciduous tree in a woods. They had stalks and gills that followed down them (stems maybe 4 or 5 inches long). The pic doesn't do it justice. The cluster was as a whole as big around as a medium sized dinner plate. A rather large cluster for this species tho in the wild, no? Perhaps I am mistaken? Perhaps tessulatus? Or a Pleurotus? Hard to say, I guess. I did find another specimen that I don't have a pic of. It was more classic. A cluster of three: A large cap, a medium and a very small, coming out of a tree trunk. Brilliant white. It was very hard tho, and had a coniferous smell to it. Odd. So tell me what you think!

| i cant tell by the pic but hypzygus dont usually grow in a cluster like that. i usually see them in small groups of 2-4 with the mushrooms being solitary rather than clustered like in that picture. i would guess some plurotus...but like i said its hard to tell just from that picture. plurotus smell different than hypzygus do thats for sure. anyway...i enjoy your posts alot...nice to see someone else is afflicted with edible fever too. |

![]() | Interesting, but I don't know.....the h.ulmarius I find in my area always grow on trees, and always have off centered stems: ![]() I know they look a bit different in different parts of the country, but those don't look the same to me The initial pics in TCO's thread, that were given to him from the source of the print, look like the h.ulmarius i know and love: ![]() but even the ones he grew looked different. The mushrooms you have pictured there, I don't think are h.ulmarius. they tend to grow in clusters of 3-4. Possibly a type of oyster, but not H.Ulmarius PS, great post Greysrdbest!

![]() | Thanks for the input everyone. greysRDbest, Im enjoying your work too! Yeah, Life had me by the balls at the time or else I would have given them the attention they had coming. I agree that H.ulmarius was a long shot. But I think that other species that came to my mind were long shots too..... To be continued until next year I guess.... I know where and when so hopefully they will be back!
