Awesome finds! I found two little guys this year but they were too bugged up to eat. How do you prepare yours?

bobcat there a type of gnat that seems to infest blewits, ive literally taken a shopvac to the caps before. i use blewits like any other mushroom, they are very rich in mushroom flavor and the flesh is kind of dense and creamy. they are good. some say they taste too mushroomy---is there such a thing?
anyway...because i have a woods that is thick in them i dehydrate alot and make a ton of duxcelle with them so i have wild mushrooms to add to recipes all winter. i look for them in areas with alot of white pine a needle duff....edges of hardwoods ...they dont really host to trees., and they love to grow in leaf litter etc.

    Duxelles
    Quote:
    Duxelles
A mixture of chopped mushrooms cooked in butter with onion (or shallots) and thyme. Duxelles is used as a stuffing or garnish and in the preparation of various dishes called 'à la duxelles. It's traditionally used in beef Wellington but is also delicious on toast, stirred through scrambled eggs, stuffed under chicken skin before roasting or folded into mashed potatoes.

thats correct, duxcelles (doo sell) is a french kitchen appareil or tool. you dont eat it alone...you use it in other things or as a stuffing for beef or chicken, and yes it is a required ingredient for a classic beef wellington. i will post a recipe if you like.

I found a couple this morning. Got a print. Now I need to agar it. Anyone know if these can be cultivated indoors?

I found some of these myself. They are a pretty good tasting mushroom. I'd think indoor cultivations could be done with them. I found mine growing in a bunch of composting leaves along the edge of a woods on a cooler day. My guess is that cooler temperatures would be required for fruiting. Lower 60's maybe.
