![]() | Yeah, look pretty turkey tailish to me, old and weathered tho. The new fruits look like Coprinus micaceus, found spring to winter. Your Coprinus family shoots spores to the air and also through deliquescing, or turning to inky goo, which I think I see in your pic. Newer ones will look lighter, maybe with spots or looking dusted. Depending on your source, the micaceus is either edible, inedible, potentially toxic or "not worth your time". The caution is probably due to their long season, habitat, and appearance. Possibly mistaking for a deadly galerina by the novice? I dunno, just a GUESS. These guys are mostly noted by Morel hunters. Nice Pics!

![]() | Yeah, so I've heard. Never had the problem with shaggys tho. I think something to do with using the same enzymes as is used to break down the booze.

| my lips have tingled after consuming wine and coprinus comatus (shaggy manes) at the same meal. The chemical in antabuse medication was originally found in coprinus type mushrooms...hence the Old English slang of "tipplers bane". from what ive read the chemical suppresses the livers capability to process alcohol. Coprinus Micaceus ( Bobcats ID was spot on, you can see the grains or crystals on some of the caps) is edible but not good. This is a fragile, tasteless type of mushroom. |

| they make you feel nauseous if consumed with alcohol. Shaggy manes just gave me a faint tingle on the lips. I have never tried other coprinus mushrooms with alcohol....in fact other than trying to prepare coprinus micaceus on several occasions without much luck , ive never consumed any other coprinus sp. mushroom. your mileage may vary.... |
