    Wild Mushie ID Please

Found it in my yard growing in the grass on the dead root of a cut down tree.

    Turkey tail of some type?

That is a reishi, my friend. Good medicinal. You make tea. Suppose to have anti-cancer properties. Nice find and nice pics!

Definitely a reishi of some sort. I've never seen a margin quite that big (if the picture is true.) Its Ganoderma lucidum or tsuagae, which both hold the same medicinal properties, and are virtually indistinguishable.

Either way, there are no poisonous mushrooms in the polypore family (which includes turkey tail), however most are considered non edible(yet medicinal) due to texture. I have found young wild specimens of reishi which seemed soft enough to cook into a soup or something similar.

What section of the hardiness zone map did you find this? Do you know what kind of tree it was growing next to?

Either way if i were you I would dry it, then grind or finely chop it and make some tea.

P.S. If my memory serves me right; I've read some polypores are to be avoided if taking MAO inhibitors..

Thanks for the intel! It was found in the 7-8 hardiness zone. The tree was a chopped down maple tree with the stump and roots still buried underground. Hope more will grow there!
