![]() | pacific NW forests psilocybin hunting tips??? I spent lots of time searching the oregon forests last autum to no avail, I rarely even see any kinds of mushrooms at all. I was hoping for some tips such as maybe good times or places, what kind of foliage to keep an out for or anything that might help me find my little friends. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Well, this does provide us some complications. First off, we don't want to discuss our personal location for obvious reasons. Second, we don't want to reveal our own secret mushroom patches, nothings worse than getting to your favorite patch to find nothing but footprints and discarded rotten mushrooms. So, this is what I did. I got myself a copy of Psilocybe Mushrooms of the World by Paul Stamets. It is very comprehensive and does a good job of describing the various habitats for the great variety of magic mushrooms that are out there. Flip through the book, and you'll find mushrooms that grow in your general area, read about them and figure out what it is that they grow in. In general, most grow on hardwood mulch. It sounds crazy, but get out of the forest and go to the city, and look around in landscaped areas, particularly with low lying shrubbery, wood chips, etc. That should help a bit... good luck!

![]() | I had the same problem in WA last year. If you have the resources to get down to Del Norte county in Northern CA go to the city of Klamath, go to "The Pacific coast trail" hike up it a few miles until you are miles away from the nearest person (Not hard to do in that town) then head east away from the trail (Don't get lost) a little ways. You WILL find woodlovers out there. If you find your way to "hidden beach"(cant miss it if you can find it) look around the piles of old beach grass for libs. A few things to keep in mind for anyone who reads this and goes out there. Cougars are all over the place, I seen one that was comparable to a great dane in size. Bears arent too much of a worry since they are more afraid of you, than you are of them. Dont take this as a racist remark, but I must say this to keep you safe, if you are a white person WATCH OUT FOR DRUNK YUROKS!!! I cant stress that enough, if you encounter the local native americans on your journey BE CAREFUL, they will have no problem beating the crap out of you (if your lucky) for any disrespect to them of thier land, and thats if they are sober. If you encounter a group of them drunk while you are miles from anywhere I hope you can run real fast (they know the terrain). Also stay away from the local bars. there is no cell phone reception, the only local law enforcement is one tribal patrol (the trail is on federal land in redwood national park, so no worries about being arrested) But most importantly 20+ MILES TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL. I know it isnt a good idea to give away locations, but the trail is long, I've told you of the dangers (My comments on the local tribe is purely what I know from experience, I am not racist, but ask any yurok and they will tell you the same thing, I've had long conversations with a couple of the tribal elders and they gave good reason for why things are that way, it's a long story) And there are plenty of mushrooms to be found. I mentioned this place in another thread and was told that mushrooms dont grow in the redwoods, I assure you they do in this particular spot. It's on a hillside that leads to a cliff that goes strait down to the ocean. the trail itself gets as high as about a half mile above sealevel, so the location is very humid. There are scattered oldgrowth redwoods, and firs, as well as an abundance of alders. This is the most beautiful place the human eye can ever see so show it your highest level of respect NO LITTERING. If you are ambitious/suicidal enough to go picking there you'll never forget this wonderful place. peace
