    Cyanescens by san francisco?

hey guys. i know its that time of year. seeing everyone elses beautiful caps has given me the urge to hit the woods again. I really suck at finding psilocybe mushrooms. I can find lots of mushrooms, but not ever the right ones. Does anyone out there have any advice for someone like me? I know what im looking for, i just cant find it? Any places (parks etc) and things i should look for (moss, woodchips, ?) thank you people!

That is your problem right there, Psilocybe cyanescens doesn't grow in the woods. It prefers to live much closer to people, often in parks.

We won't give you specific locations, but I know San Fran has a very large park.
It may be a little early yet. I'd wait till November 1st to go out.

I've tried 'the large park' just north of san francisco before. lol. I'm just not too good at finding them i guess. Jim, i have ready TONS of your stuff and believe any/everything that i see you type. I guess i just have to be more persistant then? Any things that i should look for that would indicate a good general area? Does the presence of non-psilocybes tend to be a good area or is that not a good indicator? Mushrooms are growing in the lawns around here, but im sure they aren't the right ones. Ill pick some tomorrow morning and take pics just to make sure i havent been walking by the good ones all along...

All along the sunset district in the small space between the road and the side walk, the little pans grow. Cap size is less than a dime. Especially in December, but with this weather maybe now. If you are driving by in your car you will never see them. Get out and walk around, Look and you will find them.Peace

The SF Myco Society Meets at the Randal Jr Muesum. That is where I once started. Tip of the day, get the map out and find a very little park called Evergreen Park. In good Mushroom weather, Morels can be found there. Peace

    finding them

I looked for like 6 years before I could make the proper distinctions....I joined a local myco society and started with culinaries because they were big and identifiable...with help..Even looking in aged woodchips I was clueless...but (for me) ever so slowly the picture came together. Be persistant. You will find them.

This GIANT Friscosa patch was found in the East Bay the 2nd week of November. This patch fruited untill Mid December before slowing down. It's peak was around November.
