![]() ![]() | ID.? Found these guys yesterday in the woods growing from an old decayed downed log on Indiana/Michigan border. At first glance they looked like Pan.Sub., however I do not think this is the case. There was an distinctive ring on the outer cap margin that has faded due to drying. Stems bruise blue and are solid, spores are rust, gills were brilliant white, and mycelium is white. I would also like to note the fragrance of these are identical to that of cubies, for what it is worth. Opinions?

![]() | Not an Inocybe. It looks like a species of Pluteus, some of which stain blue and are hallucinogenic and grow on rotten logs. Spores should be pink. Pluteus salicinus is a good candidate. Pluteus salicinus (MushroomExpert.Com)

Thankyou workman! I was hoping someone as wise would respond! It is indeed Pluteus salicinus (pretty sure anyway)! Would you be interested in a print(turns out they are pink)? I have made several on foil, for just in case. I Also have a piece of the log from witch they were growing and stem butts on cardboard. I would be grateful if you would examine to coaberate! I was hoping for a new species!LOL Thanks amillion! P.S. Know of anyone that has sampled this species and a little about potency?

![]() | Indeed it is..your discription threw me of a little. Good call workman! Weakly to moderately active. Stijve and Kuyper (1985) reported 0.05-0.25% psilocybin, no psilocin, and from zero to 0.008% baeocystin. Christiansen et al. (1984) found 0.35% psilocybin and 0.011% psilocin. See also Saupe (1981) and Stijve and Bonnard (1986). The Field Guide to Mushrooms of Southern Africa by G.C.A. Van der Westhuizen and Albert Eicker (1994) lists Pluteus salicinus as edible although their description lacks any mention of a bluing reaction. This species may have races that vary in their chemical content from region to region, much in the same way as Gymnopilus spectabilis. Caution is advised. |
